Question about Breville ESP8XL Espresso Machine

Can't get tight fit between basket & steam ring

Breville ESP8XL Espresso Machine
The steam ring on my machine (which is rubber) broke. Got replacement & installed, but basket that holds coffee does not seat tightly up against the new steam ring when handle is turned to lock position. When brewing, coffee now spews out around side of basket. I have tried tighenting every screw that has anything to do with the fit of the ring & the basket/handle. If I can't fix, is there a repair service that can? Thanks

When trying to use the automatic operation. Following instructions, turn on the machine - but before I can program the time I want the coffee to brew, it immediately starts brewing the coffee.

The proper replacement steam ring has an up-side & down side. the brew-head plate must be installed with the grooved side facing up; the steam ring has a groove in one side that fits over the top up the brew-head plate...does this solve the problem? if not, you may have the wrong steam ring/the brewhead plate may be installed incorrectly...oh, nov of 08...i seriously hope you've figured this out already. if not, you don't happen to still have machine in your possession, do you? if so, i'll buy it for $5.

Breville esp6 replaced silicone ring but continues to leak around this area .feels tight when coffee basket rotated, but when turned on it goes everywhere...please help!Aaron.

You may have a broken silicone seal, or a cracked filter ring. You can see an example of the small cracks on the ring on a photo at this website: http://www.vancouverwireedm.com/caferomadiyt.htm , just under the screw hole in the top corner.

Popping sound following by large bursts of steam

the machine is building too much steam so the safety is blowing off, there might be a thermostat on the machine that is not telling the elements to turn off at the correct temperature. Use ohms meter to check thermostats.

No rubber fitting on steam arm

The rubber fitting does 2 things. It splits the steam and it keeps the end from bumping too hard. You don't need it but make sure you clean the steam tube well.

Rubber fitting for steam arm

You really don't need it. You should have a cloth nearby to clean the wand when you're done. So if for some reason you need to move the wand (and with it's meagre rang of mobility I don't know why you would) be sure to grab it with the cloth because it gets really hot. The rubber thing is just there to avoid lawsuits I'm sure.  USA USA!

No water

I had the same exact problem -- the water basket simply needs to be pushed down harder.

No Pressure when extracting coffe

it's quite simple, Quite Simple: manual says packing grounds too tightly/ too fine a grind causes this problem; does your steam wand put out adequate steam? if so, don't pack so tight. of course, the manual is full of lies, so chalk it up to poor workmanship/quality control at factory/bad design/bad business practices a'la lower end breville machine. take yer pick.

No steam or pump noise

get a used starbucks barista by saeco for a couple hundred...you'll be pleased. (know i am-and i only paid $25 for my year old breville esp8xl POS). verify it works-it will probably last longer & perform better. if inclined/capable, maybe you can replace the pump yourself (a new one's prob in $35-$40 range; if more, scrap the machine or sell it "as is" for parts & put the money toward a better machine. good luck!

Breville ESP8XL Espresso Machine Cafe Roma leaking.. help please..

We had that happen and it was a crack in the black ring that holds the filter. Breville could not supply us with one but we found an OEM part in aluminum from http://www.vancouverwireedm.com/caferomadiyt.htm. We received it 1 week after ordering. It was pretty easy to replace. Our machine works fine now.
