Need basic instrux on how to exchange hard drives from one gateway media center 610 to another

take off the cover and unplug the hd from one and put it in the next one, it is only 2 plugs and you can not plug them in wrong it will be a 4 pin power cord coming from the power supply and a data cable, depending on how old your computer is it will be a small cable with a black connector or a larger one that looks like a ribbion either one you can not plug them in the wrong way. The power plug you can put anyone of the extra ones into it! If it fits it will work, depending on if the hardware in the two computers, you most likley will have to repair or reinstall windows!

Power cuts off or does not start

Check the power cord if it is connected correctly, if does then probably there is problem with the power supply or in the motherboard. Try also replacing the power cords of the power supply.

How do I change the video card in my 610XL PC?

After the side of the case is opened and the computer unpluged and the video to the monitor unplugged, if it has a card already installed , remove the screw holding the card down then pull the old card straight up out of the card slot. Align the new card that you purchased , pushing it straight down into the slot. Install the hold down screw. Reinstall the side . Install the software after hooking  the computer and monitor up.   If you don;t jknow which type of card ,down load a manual and maybe even further instructions from the weblink I provided.

Below it the Gateway support center for your model. All you have to do is to put in your 22 digit serial number.

Gateway 610XL Disassembly

take cover off top of base.- pry off
remove two screws that hold speaker unit, it will tilt out, disconnect cables and remove speaker.
two screws on back of base and then take off back cover.remove sheild cover.
disconnect all cables. 4 screws hold power supply in.
rca connector board has little black button holding it on. pry up and then remove board to access connecters behind.
pull all cables out towards you.
remove 6 screws that hold base to back of screen, pull up tape under where cables go thru hole.
remove base from screen.
take out screws on back of screen. carefully pry all around case to seperate.
remove back, and then sheild. there are a few screws that hold it on.
If your screen was black, then the two inverter boards could be the problem. there is one in the upper left corner and one in the lower left corner. you can by them on internet. match the partnumber, there are 2 diffent ones.

Power supply installation in gateway 610xl

to replace a standard ATX powersupply;

remove left hand side cover (ensure power is disconnected first);
disconnect the 20.24 pin primary power plug (big wide white one plugs directly onto the mainboard, also disconnect the 4 pin AUX power plug, looks just like the other one but is a smaller square shaped plug (older P3 boards will not have this)

disconnect all 4 pin power plugs from hard drives/cd drives and aftermarket fans (if any are installed), disconnect SATA power plugs from any SATA devices installed (flat black plug, 4 wires)

disconnect floppy drive power plug (if app) small while 4 pin power plug, once all of these are disconnected, looking at the rear of the computer there will be 4 screws holding the power supply in place, one screw will be more to the centre slightly to ensure you do not put it in upside down, once you remove those screws the power supply will slide right out.. simply re-do these steps in revers for instaling the new power supply

Video does not work

It sounds like the Lcd inverter board is bad in the monitor
as you turn on the computer if you see no video at all and the screen stays black all the time then the inverter or the power to the inverter is bad.
you need to have the lcd monitor checked out.
the flickering off and on is the usual symptom for this.

Gateway Power Supply

It's not likley the power usage that did in the power supply unless you split the feeds numerous times. The switch should be straightforward, unplug all the feeds paying attention to what you unplug and only unplug what comes from the power supply. It should be a simple matter then to unscrew the supply from the case, remove the old and reverse the operation.
