Question about Whirlpool GGQ8831L Gas Dryer
I have a 6 year old LGB600KQ1 Whirlpool gas dryer. I replaced the ignitor because that seemed to be the cheapest and most logical solution. Unfortunately, it still doesn't heat up consistantly. If I start the dryer up, the ignitor starts and the flame comes on but if I turn it off, and restart it, the ignitor doesn't start... then if I turn it off again, and restart, the ignitor comes back on and the flame comes on. It seems to work every other time. I've also let it run and some times, I get a gas smell, as if the gas comes on but the ignitor doesn't. Could this be a problem with the radient sensor or the Main Timer? or is there something else I should be checking and how would I check to narrow it down without ordering all the parts?
Also it is possible the coils need to be replaced. I had similar symptoms as you describe. Found a place that had the primary and secondary coils as a pair in a pack. Popped them in and solved the problem. The coils are electromagnets that control the gas flow valve, and despite being a solid state part, they go bad sometimes.

Replace the sensor on side of the heat tube where valve and ign is located
