I bought a wireless network adaptor for xbox 360. I set it up according to the manuals. When I try to get online with the xbox 360 it recognizes the network, comes up with the ip address, but cannot find the dns. What could the problem possibly be?

You do have an account with an isp yeah? eg BT, Tiscali, Sky, etc etc having a wireless router does not in itself get you onto the net... if you have an isp already thats cool but is the router you have a broadband modem too? or does it need to connect to your existing modem? the reason I ask is DNS is dial up networking service and one of the reasons a DNS would not be found is if there simply was not one to be found

My xbox 360 says im connected to xbox live checked network setings and it says xb ox live is up and running...however when i try to play need for speed online..it says xbox live not working functionally?...

Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings." Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.) Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP. Save your settings and verify the network is functional. On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live. On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.

I try to plug in my belkin 54 wireless usb thing into my xbox 360 and my xbox doesnt even recognize that it is in there and i dont know where to start but i would like to be able to play games online and...

Hi,

XBOX 360 is alredy wifi enabled you dont have to plug a thing in to it, if you want to configure wireless

All you got to do is turn on your wireless router/access point and try to search for available network in Xbox 360 and upon selectin the network it would ask for wireless key (WEP key cab found on the back or bottom of router) punch in the key and bingo...its done
Your box is ready to be wirelessly connected to internet and play online

alternatively if you dont ahve a wirelss router or you are facing difficulty is seraching wireless router or finding the security key

Connect the router to modem > then connect the router and XBOX with an ethernet cable
It will work

Else you can also try connecting the modem and XBOX with an ethernet or USB cable

(However in all the aboove scenario, please ensure the modem is getting the internet link through the normal RJ11 or phone cable, please dont unplug that else though your XBOX would be connected to Modem or router but it wont get internet connection)

Want to set xbox on line havnt got a clue

If you have an original Xbox the online capability is obsolete and will no longer be supported by Microsoft if you have an Xbox 360 you need to purchase an xbox live account either at a retail location or online through your xbox dashboard (internet and credit card required). You need to connect a network cable to the back of the xbox the other end to your router or modem to access Xbox live. They also sell a wireless network adaptor for the 360 that you can use instead of a wired connection.

How to connect to XboxLive via 1800HG 2WIRE+Linksys adaptor?

The easiest way to connect to Xbox Live without using your pc is to buy a
wireless network adapter for your Xbox.

You would then go into the system settings on the Xbox and configure the settings for your wireless network.

Xbox 360 - direct to internet - No PC.

Had this problem my self, try lowering the firewall on your router and make sure the network allows media sharing.

I am having problems with my dsl router

id say yes it can be done by folowing these steps on both xboxes
1. Make sure your wireless router is correctly connected to your Internet access and is broadcasting the wireless signal.
  • Step 2 Connect the Xbox 360 console to a Microsoft-manufactured WiFi adapter with a USB connection. This is different from an older Xbox console, which required an ethernet connection.
  • Step 3 Turn on the console and navigate to the Wireless Settings menu. Go to "System - Network Settings" and then finally to "Edit Settings."
  • Step 4 Configure the console's SSID to match that of the router. The SSID will be pre-selected and appear on the Xbox's display if the router is set to broadcast the SSID. Go to "Specify Unlisted Network" and enter the SSID.
  • Step 5 Set the Network Mode to "Infrastructure."
  • Step 6 Set the security of the Xbox 360 to match the router's security. Set the console to WEP or WPA encryption, whichever one the router uses, and enter the router's encryption key.
  • Step 7 Save all your settings after configuring them. Confirm that the console is connected to the network by going to the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option. This will tell you if your wireless connection is working.
