HP Pavilion ZE5185 wireless card not accepted

Hy, I have a pretty odd problem with my laptop. No matter what pcmcia card I insert in the port - it works without any problem; when I insert a wireless card - nothing happens, every single time. And yes, I have the latest driver installed. You know, Windows makes a sound when you insert a usb or a card, well nothing happens with every single wireless card...

I tried a Linksys wireless card, now I have a Edimax one.

Please, I need some help, I don't know what to do next

frcs68, thanks for your response, but I'm afraid I don't have a build in wireless card.

You were right, the PC was supposed to have a wireless card, but it doesn't! Yes, any other PCMCIA card is working just fine (USB 2.0, LAN etc) in both slots, except the wireless one. And it is not broke, cause I had another one and it did the same thing untill I threw it away because I got mad...

Yo would not see any physical indication from the outside.
go to hp.com and click on support, type in the model number and get the original spec. from HP, that will tell you if you have internal wireless card.
as far as I know, you should have one.
can you get any PCMCIA card??
need to find out if the slot is working?

Your laptop has buidin wireless. you don't need a additonal wirelsss card.
that's why the laptop beeps whne you insert the wireless card.
there is a wireless on-off button—located on the right side of the front of the computer—you can connect to a wireless local area network (LAN) and access computers and other resources on the network.

Where do you find a wireless card for this laptop?

It should have built-in wireless. Is there a wireless on/off switch on the right front of the case? Is there a wireless light indicator?
If your wireless switch is off, you won't be able to connect.
You can go to the device manager and look at the network devices to see if a wireless device is installed. If so, you'll just need to turn it on.
If you don't have one, you'll need to install a wireless card.

I am keeping my Pavilion Ze4805us as long as I can. Despite its age, it came equipped with a wireless card. Can I get Internet access on it via my wireless phone by tethering an air card to it? Or do I...

If your phone and your computer has bluetooth, you may use the phone as your modem. Though internet tethering using a mobile phone is commonly done via USB connection. Air card depends on your ISP. Im pretty sure they still have PCMCIA cards available, since your Pavilion is pretty old.

Trying to incert a wireless modem

There are several types of wireless modems available.
A PCMCIA wireless card that inserts into the laptop's PCMCIA slot.
A stand alone wireless modem that connects into the LAN port (10BaseT connector) with a network cable or a USB cable to the computer's USB port.
and
A USB wireless device (similar in size as a USB memory stick)that connects into the computer's USB port.

I have an older HP laptop with no wireless capability. We have DSL with the wireless router connected to our desktop. The only way I can access the internet is by putting in the AT&T air card. I don't want...

You can connect to the Internet using your DSL wireless router by several methods.
1. If your HP has a LAN port the you can connect to your wireless router with a LAN cable (provided you have a spare LAN port on the router.
2. You can use a USB wireless adapter to connect to the wireless router.
3. You can use a PCMCIA wireless card to connect to the wireless router.
Both the wireless USB and PCMCIA wireless adapter are approx. $50, my preference is to use a PCMCIA adapter, it leaves the USB port free for other devices, such as USB memory sticks, especially if the laptop has only one USB port.

Verizon Wireless PC 5750 air car work in a HP Pavillion

No because the Aircard PC5750 is a PCMCIA slot card, and your laptop has a Next Gen Express Card/ 54 Slot. The Express card slot is smaller than the PCMCIA slot. That makes the PC5750 incompatible.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

HP Pavilion ze5185 PC Notebook ATI Mobility Radeon

indeed you are having and ATI chip beneath the keyboard. (a BGA 256 ball ATI Mobility) Unfortunately due to rights the laptop manufacturers are developing the graphic drivers and not ATI so these drivers you found are at best totally incompatible.

Go to this Link from HP and download ZE 5185 model that you own - Also you will find manuals and all other drivers for the laptop.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=214330&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&lang=&cc=us

(Select your operating system - The Driver in included in the whole driver package (sound, etc) Pls check the description.(the size should be around 42mb)

Regards

As they say look in the control panel /system/Device Manager under the listing for PCMCIA Adapters. If the device listed is an O2 Micro controller or OZ6912, click "contact hp"
