My treadmill runs for 9 secons and stops and shows E1

Ok. So the first thing to try is to calibrate the speed.
You do this by doing the following:
  • With the SAFETY KEY in place, hold the ELEVATION UP and SPEED DOWN buttons for five seconds. The console will beep twice, "ENG0" will appear in the Distance window, and a number will appear in the Elevation window.
  • Press SELECT until "ENG3" appears; this is for Auto-Calibration.
  • Press START to Auto-Calibrate.
  • The treadmill will calibrate minimum and maximum speed, and minimum and maximum elevation. When Auto-Calibration is complete, the treadmill will reset to User's start screen. This process takes three to five minutes.
Make sure there are no errors. . .and that the speed goes from super slow to super fast and then stops. . .. if it stays slow. . or stays fast. .or error code appears during calibration, there is a problem.
If after a good calibration sequence, if it still does the stopping and E-1 after 10 seconds. ., then you need to (Power off and disconnect treadmill). . .then unplug the speed sensor from the lower power board, blow into the connector on the wire, and add a little contact cleaner spray to the connector on the board.
Recap: If it actually runs. . .but stops after a few seconds. . but the calibration runs and passes fine. .. .more than likely it is a speed sensor misread or a faulty speed sensor.

Our Weslo Cadence Dx12 treadmill will only operate at the highest speed and will not turn off without the safety key. The speed cannot be adjusted to slower speeds.

Go to Radio Shack and buy some contact cleaner. Clean the peed control on the console. If that doesn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the motor controller PCB..

Walking belt slows down to almost a stop when i get on it

I believe under the motor shroud on the circuit board their should be 2 pots 1 adjusts torque 2. adjusts speed try adjusting them and see if that take care of the problem if not. worse case it might be the drive motor.

My bowflex treadclimber goes slow/fast/slow again and stops. It then shows an E1 on the display. What can I do to fix this? I have no directions for trouble shooting. Also, should I be able to speed...

The speed sensor is not connected correctly. There should be a jumper wire that runs from the speed sensor over to a harness by the control board on the other side of the machine. There may be a second jumper wire connected to nothing, only used in the 3000/5000 models. There is also a wire that comes from inside the treadles that isn't used on the 1000. The current assembly manual available from bowflex online seems to explain it better.

Manual Treadmills vs. Motorized Treadmills

Treadmills come in two basic varieties, just like lawnmowers: manual and motorized. But, unlike a lawnmower, you will generally get a better workout from a motorized treadmill. Manual Treadmills - Getting Going On a manual treadmill, the action of your feet against the deck moves the belt. Pros * You provide all of the motive power and exercise your lower body. Cons * It can be difficult to get the belt moving intially. That straining against the belt can stress your joints. * You may have to raise the incline of the treadmill significantly to make it easy enough to get the belt moving. * Once the belt is moving, however, you would have to stop and get off to change the incline, so you are stuck with one incline level during each workout. Motorized Treadmill Advantages * The belt is moved by the motor, you don't have to strain to start it. * On many treadmills, you can adjust the speed and incline while you are still walking or running. On others, you may have to get off and adjust the incline manually, but you just have to turn on the treadmill to start the belt again. Manual Treadmills - Speed With a manual treadmill, you go only as fast as you push yourself. If you slow, it slows. If you stop, it stops. Motorized Treadmill Speed and Workouts The speed is adjustable and many motorized treadmills have workout programs that adjust the speed to give you a varied workout. This pushes you to go faster. The constantly moving belt of a motorized treadmill motivates you to keep up. Costs Manual treadmills are relatively inexpensive, in the $100-200 US range. Motorized treadmills for home use cost from $750-$5000, and generally the more you pay, the better you get. Most motorized treadmills under $1000 have underpowered motors and are less sturdy and have fewer options for adjusting the incline, programmed workouts, etc.
