WOULD I BE CAPABLE OF OPENING UP THE TV AND BE ABLE TO FIX SAME
Possibly; vertical deflection ICs are more available than some other parts but to identify it, you will either need knowledge or a service manual with schematics available.
There is a chance that it is not an IC but a failing capacitor.  The deflection voltage is derived from a tap on the flyback, rectified and then filtered. If the cap that does the filtering is losing capacitance and gaining losses, this can cause your vertical deflection to gradually shrink.
You will still need a schematic to find which tap is used so you can trace it to the rectifier and finally the filter cap.
Do a search on your model number and the phrase "service manual" in quotes; I've seen a fair quantity of these available on line. But, not generally from the manufacturer since they mostly insist on supplying this only to 'authorized dealers.'

The symptoms you describe are actually 2 different issues. The easiest way to address this is to attack the vertical problem then if the other still exists, we will address that one. I should be able to provide you with details, but I will need the model number. Please update this with the model number and further details and instructions will follow.

Thanks,
Dan

I have a Sony Trinitron Model KV-27V40 and I can't turn the TV on. the stand by/timer light keeps flashing 4 times . I've unplugged it and tried again. HELP!

Hello
Four blinks of standby light with Sony Trinitron TVs are related with its vertical scanning fault. It may be due to the fault to the vertical output IC, of it does not get the proper volatage to work on. To proceed with; you must have a sound knoledge in electronics, and about the working of a picture tube based TV. If you have, just open the set, locate the vertical output section. At firs, look for any loose soldering to that section, especially to the solder terminals of vertical output IC. It is quite normal case for loose sodering to the termiminals of this IC; as it will heatup to an extent while working. Repeted heating and cooling, will make the solder terminals to get expand and contract; thus loose solder points occurs. Just resolder most of the vertical output section by applying a little more solder, whthout making any solder bridge in between close adjecent solder terminals. If this does not hel you, check the input voltage to that IC. If there is no voltage, find out the reason; resistor open; track break etc:- If there is volatege and still the problem occurs, output IC is damaged and should be replace with and identical one both in number and size. OK

Vertical Distortion fix for Toshiba 32 inch TV

You have bad capacitors and possibly a vertical IC that is going bad. And check for bad grounds in and around the IC and caps!

Toshiba 32A41, Audio works, but video is

The vertical circuit is malfunctioning. This can be as simple as poor solder connections at the vertical IC or a defective IC. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Please use caution as there are potentially dangerous high voltages present inside the set even when unplugged.

Locate the vertical IC, which is a small flat IC attached to a heatsink. It should have 9-11 pins and be karmed LA7833 or something similar. Resolder the pins first. If that does not resolve the problem, replace the IC (about $15-$20). It is possible that some of the capacitors in the circuit are also defective. If that is the case, the above actions will at least change the symptoms. Update this with any change other than complete resolution of the problem, and additional instructions will be supplied.

I have a toshiba 32 inch 1997 tv. When I turn32G90 it

It sounds like the picture tube may be weak (because it's orange) but it going to half ascreen is not caused by the picture tube but likely a vertical circuit problem. If this problem happened suddenly (going orange) then the picture tube is probably good and at least worth bringing in for an estimate.

How do i repair my toshiba 32" model 32DF45. it shows a white line across the screen

In this case I think the vertical o/p IC is a AN5521?

This is an easy repair if you've ever soldered and would not be too costly for a repair shop to do it for you. The problem is a bad Vertical Output IC (usually mounted on an aluminum heat sink with the part on it labeled LA78?? ) and 1 or 2 bad capacitors. Some times you can even fix the problem by re-soldering the contacts of the IC- To find the IC follow the 4 wires that come from the Yoke (which is a contained coil of wires slipped over the neck of the picture tube(s)) back to the board. 2 of the wires go to the horizontal o/p and 2 to the Vertical o/p the thinner gauge wires are for the vertical.

Flat line on Toshiba tube tv

It could be the vertical output IC, but there may be other possible causes which include:

- bad solder contacts on deflection yoke connectors or dirty connector contacts (on the circuit board and / or on the picture tube neck)

- bad solder contacts on the vertical output IC or associated components (check for little cracks in the solder around the pins, these are so called "cold" or bad / broken contacts)

- power loss to the vertical output IC - check for any burned resistors or other components around that IC, assuming you know which one it is - see which ICs are connected to the wires going to the deflection yokes (coils) on the picture tube neck and check them well.

You need to resolder any bad contacts, clean any dirty pins on the connectors and replace any burnt out components (assuming you can still determine the type or value of the component).

Since you mentioned the problem occurs once in a while, this means that the IC probably fails when it warms up, which can often happen if there are loose connections or bad solder contacts.

Anyway, it could turn out to be a faulty IC, i just suggested a few other things that can be fixed quite easily, and possibly without the need to replace any of the components.

TV Toshiba CF32G50

I think you have a vertical problem. Turn up screen voltage to see if there is a tin horizontal line across screen. If so replace vertical output IC and the 100uf/35v capacitor in the vertical circuit.

Toshiba TV with only a horizontal picture?

You could have a simple loose connection on the vertical output IC . Sometimes you can tap the board and the picture will fill out . Or the IC could have failed . It will also take out the resistor that supplys the voltage to the vertical IC . If you take it apart to work on be careful as you can be shocked if you don't know what your doing . Most repair shops charge $50 to $80 to repair . Good luck
