Quasar 1989 tv makes a buzzing motor sound

My tv makes a buzzing sound like when some one is using a power tool and it interrupts the tv while you are watching the show. The motor buzzing sound comes and goes all the time the tv is on.
If it is in the tuner, I don't know how to repair that, speakers look good and very good connection.
The motor buzzing sound will last for about 5 seconds than stop, between the buzzing sound and when it stops is about a 10 second pause than a motor buzzing sound and as it makes that noise the picture on the tv has snowy lines and the picture jumps up and down. I listen to where the noise was coming from in the back of the tv and it sounds like it is coming from the right speaker.
Any help u can give me is very appreciative.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, if you have confirmed that the source of the buzzing sound is from inside the TV, then that would indicate a component about to fail or would need attention. Let us try process of elimination:

  • tuner - most unlikely, the tuner is responsible for selecting the channel. No component/part of the tuner could make such a mechanical buzzing sound;
  • speaker(s) - most unlikely, the speaker could have a buzz but generally would not affect the video nor cause snow (weak TV signals);
  • transformer - a strong possibility although without knowing the exact model, at most generic ideas; power transformer, flyback transformer, horizontal drive transformer (unlikely);
  • arcing - another strong possibility. This could be caused by damp, dusty surroundings of the components especially at the FBT area. Another area that could have adverse effect when dusty/damp would be the anode cap.
This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

W/w doesn't run

Could be in depth diagnosis needed here, first check that there is power getting to the wiper motor, if there is then locate the w/w relay and check for power there, next if those have no power it's to the switch itself. My guess is since it was making noise that the wiper motor has gone bad.

Gas dryer wont run

Hi. there can be many issue that can cause this type of interruption in normal operations. Lets go threw a few.One could be a faulty or dead motor. The timer board sends a signal to the motor once the start button is pushed. If the motor is malfunctioning or the wires that connect to the motor are lose or old and worn, the motor will usually click or buzz. the fault itself can be within the timer assembly or the motor itself. the best way to find out is to test the current flow at the motor by using a multimeter. connect this meter to the motor terminals and select the cycle and hit the start button. if the meter reads voltage at the motor and the motor clicks or buzzes, this will confirm an actual motor failure. if the voltage at the motor is weak or not there 0, this means the timer will need to be replaced. Next, I would check the door switch for its operational value. you can use the same method as i discussed above with the meter. use the terminals for testing on the switch. This could be a problem area as well. if the switch is malfunctioning, the dryer will not run at all. you will find the problem in one or both of the discussed areas above.

please rate and god bless.

Cable connection

some older tv's only go up to so many channels.you may not even need a remote to set up cable tv. if you are going to use a cable box on this tv, put the tv on channel 3.if not, look in front of the tv for a little door. behind it maybe knobs or buttons that can program the channels 1 at a time [+= add - = erase. there also maybe a switch for different cable types [hrc,std, etc]
hope this helps
