Xerox Document Centre 230ST displays "Not Ready To Copy"

Checked all connections, unsure of where to go from here. I've read the "Servicing the masses" walkthrough that can be found online that briefly touches on this issue. I followed instructions given to no result. It says if the User Interface (UI) is the only software level displayed, it is a communications problem. The issue is I don't know where the communications problem comes into play. It displays the UI software as 20.4X. It displays nothing for DC, MF, and IIT...and for ESS, G3, HCF, and DSS it reads not installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The place where I got this from said it needed a new network card per a xerox tech, but that it still copies and prints just fine as long as you don't hook it up to a computer.

Could simply be out of ink ,that machine will sometimes not detect an empty toner cartridge and just sit there kind of dumb...

unless you have a big piece of whiteout in the glass area, you will need to replace the scanner assembly in the unit.

Hello, Kevin.

Give this a try (From Xerox Support):

  1. Press the [Administration] button located above the numeric keypad on the Control Panel. The Administration button has a wrench symbol located above it. The Access screen will be displayed.
  2. Select [Tools] on the Touch Screen. The Tools Access Number screen will be displayed.
  3. Enter your password using the numeric keypad.

    NOTE: If you do not know the password, contact your administrator. The initial password at machine install is 11111.

    If the administrator encounters a problem with changing or remembering the machine password, a service call must be placed.

  4. Select [Enter] on the Touch Screen. The Tools screen will be displayed.
  5. Select [System Image Quality]. The System Image Quality screen will be displayed.
  6. Select [Image Recognition]. The Image Recognition screen will be displayed.
  7. Select [Auto Color Recognition] from the list of items under the Functions column.
  8. Select [Change Settings]. The Auto Color Recognition screen will be displayed.
  9. Select the appropriate level of Auto Color Recognition from the list.

    NOTE: When [Black and White] or [Black and White +] are selected black and white will be more readily detected. When [Color] is selected full color will be more readily detected.

    The available levels are:
    • [Black & White +]
    • [Black & White]
    • [Normal]
    • [Color]
    • [Color +]
  10. Select [Save].
  11. Select [Close] three times to exit Tools and return to the default copy screen.

Print heads need deep cleaning. If not ink jet, then the drum is damaged (scratched) and needs to be replaced to eliminate the bogus lines.

First of all clean the platten glass, also the narrow glass to the left of the platten glass. If the lines are still there after doing a copy,open the upper left cover and look at the fuser heat roller,the lines could be from a toner contaminated heat roller,this can be cleaned with a minerised scowering pad.with the copier switched on press the Key button then # 1 1,touch Enter on the touch screen.touch HSFI tab,scoll down to copies on cru and enter, if the count is above 20,000 the fault could be the cru ( copy cartridge) needs replacing as it is not cleaning the drum.
There is not a USB port on the 425 dc. If the copier has a ESS on top of the engine ( you should see a floppy disk drive slot on the front of the copier) it means it has been converted to a 425 ST, if not it will cost a to much to convert. A xerox 425 ST will connect to a computer. Xerox ST copiers means Networked

425DC is a Digital Copier and it cannot be connected to PC, it only can copy, but can't print.

Does this happen when using a specific feature? If not, you can try to unplug the device directly from the power cord. Wait 15min and plug all back in and turn the device on.

If the issue happens when scanning then you might want to try scan reducing the resolution to the minimum to check the behaviour.

The machine copies one clean copy and the rest of the copies have black lines all over page so you cannot read what is on the page.

If there is a known good old cartridge, insert it in the machine and see if the problem goes away.
Chances are the copy cartridge is the problem.
Not seeing the machine, a bad fuser can cause this problem. Since their is limited information, these are some known fixes for the machine.

Sorry bout that ques. I had to ask, a machine will come to ready, but "not ready to copy" because of paper issues. Area there any other indicators, door open, low/no toner, jamzzzzz? Also if you have a doc feeder or ANY other device attached to the machine, including FAX lines, cat5 (network) cables, power the machine down and disconnect EVERYTHING. then power up and post the results here.

Press machine log in button, enter 11111 confirm, this will take you to sys admin mode, from here you can navigate into sys settings to configure network,copy and fax defaults, and also auditron admin if this is the password mentioned, if the 11111 password has been changed hold the zero button for a few seconds then press start while still holding zero enter 6789 to get into diagnostics, and you can navigate through to the above settings caution be careful what you change in this mode.

Is the display saying NOT READY, or is it not comming on.
If the display is blank there is a known problem with those displays and Xerox will replace them free of charge.
If you have a blank display, call 1-800-835-6100.
If I am misunderstanding the issue provide more details please.
