E2 F3 error code, on a kenmore oven, upper heating still on

E2 F3 showed on the LED display. Upper heating element would not shut off. Had to turn circuit breaker off. Turning it back on does not work either.

Everything I'm finding is point to replacing the oven temperature sensor. But, nothing conclusive yet.

error code E2 F3 kept beeping and by the time I found the post about the upper element, it was buring cherry red and almost burnt up my casserole!! I had to go throw the breaker to turn it off. Will letting it cool down help? what needs to be replaced, can we do it ourselves or call Sears and about how much does this cost?? Any ideas??

Replacing the temperature sensor did the trick for me and was really cheap and easy to replace.

Google your make, model ID, and "sensor" to find the right part. Then, order the best deal you can find. When it comes in, pull your stove our away from the wall. Unplug the oven to make absolutely sure there is no live power still running to it. Remove the large panel from the back of the oven. From a rear view, follow the wires that run toward the right, a little more than halfway up, buried in the insulation. This will be where your temperature sensor is. It is easy to figure out how to extract and replace it.

Once you've replaced the sensor, and before you put everything back together, plug the power cord back into the wall and turn your circuit breaker back on for a quick test to make sure the new sensor is working okay.

Please, make sure to unplug again before putting it back together. You can't be too safe. Remember, the oven runs on 220 volts, which is double the standard household voltage. And wires on the back of these ovens come a little too close to that solid-metal sheet rear cover for my comfort.

F3 E2 Error Code, but then oven won't turn off

The oven controller may be failed (stuck relay) or the oven temp probe may be failed but this would normally cause both elements to be on at least some of the time.

Kenmore E2 F3

The F3 E2 error code indicates that the electronic oven control board in the range senses an over-temperature condition in the oven.

This can be caused by a failed temperature sensor probe, a wiring problem between the sensor and the control board, or a failed electronic oven control board.
If the oven is apparently not overheating when this error code appears, then your likely failure is the temperature sensor probe.
If the oven is overheating, then you likely have a failed electronic oven control board due to a stuck relay not cycling the oven heating element off properly.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.
