You will need a better instrument to test to see which one is off the humidistat or the hydrometer.

Why does the humidity in my house go up when the furnace is on?

Humidifiers are usually controlled by a humidistat that reads the humidity in your house and turns the water on and off to humidifier that is attached to your furnace. When your furnace is running it sends the voltage through your humidistat that then runs water through a filter screen inside humidifier and the furnace forces air through this screen which places humidity into your home. If humidity too high look at dropping level on humidistat control. (Usually attached to ductwork bye furnace)

Why do I need a hygrometer for?

You don't have to have it unless you are a Meteorologists that likes to measure the humidity in the air which might help predicting the weather.

The Hygrometer on my Air-O-Swiss U7142 reads 25% all the time. I assume its not functioning properly as I have other hygrometers in the house which say higher readings. Is there a known way to fix this? I...

I have got the same problem with my u7142 unit. This most probably means that the hygrostat inside is either broken or it has been heavily covered with the "white dust" in case the demineralization cartridge has not been changed for a long while.
To resolve it you have two options: either clean the humidity sensor or replace it. The sensor is at the bottom of the front panel, so you need to disassemble the front panel only, no need to open the whole unit (note that there are 2 screws at the bottom holding the front panel also). You need to get the sensor out from the printed circuit to open the cover and clean the surface of the sensor with something (blowing air does not help; you need physically touch the surface with something). If it does not help then you can go for the second option to replace the sensor, the type used in the unit is SYH-1. It is not a pricy element so you may go straight to the replacement if you find a shop nearby to buy it. I have simply replaced the sensor and now the unit is showing the proper humidity value and adjusting the steam automatically again.

No humidity in the house

Hello, the first to confirm is if you are receiving 24 volts at the transformer, if you are then check for 24 volts going into the humidistat and out of the humidistat, if voltage is confirmed there then check if your solenoid is recieving 24 volts, if it is and the solenoid is not letting water into the humidifier than your solenoid is bad and must be replaced. If you do not have 24 volts at the transformer then turn off power to the transformer and set your meter to read continuity, you should have resistance if not the transformer is bad and must be replaced. If you have power to the humidifier and not humidifieing properly then you have to set the humidistat according to what the outdoor temp is, the outside temp determines what setting and % of humidity you should have in your home. Here is a what it should be
-20 set to 15%
-10 set to 20%
0 set to 25%
10 set to 30%
20 set to 35%
above 30 set to 40%

Too much humidity in house water sitting on windows

Adjust your humidistat to lower humidity level. If you do not have a humidistat, get one and install following mfg guidelines. Home Depot sells one for about $30

Hi I need help understanding the controls to my humidistat. I have a honeywell a/c unit so I'm assuming the gold colored humistat next to it is also honeywell. I bought a digital temperature and humitiy...

The higher the % of RH, (relative humidity), the more humid the house will be. I would disregard the temp part of the dial, and focus more on your comfort. Adjust it up daily until you reach a satisfactory humidity level. Hope this helps

Aprilaire 560 will only click and flow water when turned to "test" does not work in any other settings?

Humidity must be hi enough in the house or Humidistat is not working. Do you any way to check humidity in the house?
If the Humidistat is set as Automatic, try to leave it as Manual.

Humidity levels vs. hydrometer

I had the opposite problem - I set mine to 55, and my hygrometer was reading 67. Turns out the hygrometer was way off, and the humidifier was very close to maintaining what it was set to. Did you try the salt/water method to check the calibration of your hygrometer?

Humidty reading remains at 84%

Dehumidifiers are generally a very simple appliance, however a humidistat is one of those items a person tends to rely on to provide feedback. You may want to remove the grille area where the humidistat is mounted and inspect for foreign material in the way of the sensor. If nothing foreign is detected then you should replace the humidistat.
