1) MICROWAVE HEATING POWER TEST

The following test will provide a suitably accurate measurement of the output power of any microwave oven. Variations or errors in performing this test will produce uncertain results. If the line voltage (from the electrical outlet) is low, the magnetron output will be correspondingly low.

Equipment needed:

- Microwave safe container with 1000 mL (1 Liter) gradation.

- Fahrenheit or centigrade thermometer

Procedure:

Pour exactly 1000 mL (1 Liter) of cool tap water into the container. Using the thermometer, stir the water, then measure and record the temperature. For accurate results the water should be about 60 degrees F (20 degrees C).

Place the container on the center of the oven cooking shelf (do not leave the thermometer in the container and remove any metal racks), and heat the water (at full power) for 63 seconds. Use the second hand of a watch, not the oven timer.

After the heating time is completed, immediately remove the container, stir the water, re-measure and record the temperature of the heated water.

Subtract the starting water temperature (step 2) from the ending water temperature (step 3) to obtain the temperature rise.

To determine the output power in watts, multiply the total temperature rise by a factor of 38.75 if you're using a Fahrenheit thermometer or by 70 if you're using a centigrade thermometer.

2) If it's not
hidden either behind the grille or control panel, they may have left it out as a cost-savings measure.

Locate light switch Light switch does not turn off light Tested microwave--heats water ok

Since you didn't mention the model number or which light, I have to be kind of general.
I would bet that the light you're talking about is either the cavity light or the cooktop light.

Either could be stuck on due to a shorted relay on the control circuit board, which we regularly repair.
There's also a chance it may be a bad door switch or door switch mount. See my text file on that here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

For most brands, you can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

My microwave oven is dead. Apparently the fire protector blew. How to locate and how to replace?

Since you didn't mention the model number, I have to be kind of general.

If you mean the flame sensor or oven cavity thermostat, they are usually located on the top of the cooking cavity, so you would first have to remove the oven from the wall mount if it's an over the range type.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

If for some reason you don't still have your installation instructions, y
ou can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can download owner's manuals and installation instructions for several brands (including Amana, Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Litton, Maytag, Roper, Tappan, Thermador and Whirlpool) here.

You can download Frigidaire owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can download Samsung over the range microwave installation instructions here.

You can find links to other brands and find helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

I recommend that you bookmark that link to your favorites.

Then you can remove the outer cover to access the parts.

My microwave was manufactured in 1984. just recently started shooting out sparks? Do I need a new one. Doesnt work well

Sparks are a bad thing - I would go new or used from Craigslist. Just check that it works. GE performance test: Heat 1 liter of water for 2:03 at full power, should raise by at least 35 degrees @120V. Record starting temp and ending temp (no cooler than 59 to start).

GE Profile Microwave Oven with an F1 error code

F 11 code. it is a touch pad error.
If you just cleaned the control panel it may have water in the panel causing a key to stick.
If after a day or 2 it hasn't dried out - then you will need to replace the touch pad.

Visit www.searspartsdirect.com and enter in your full model number for a parts breakdown and schematics.

How to clean GE Advantium???

Get a stainless steel "brillo pad" at the grocery store.

When you get home ... put a microwave safe container with water inside it ... in the oven. do not heat for more than 2 minutes!!!!! The resultant steam will soften the gunk. Use the stainless steel cleaner pad gently to remove the goop.

I hope this helps you

GE Microwave Profile Spacemaker Runs on its own

Your microwave turning on by itself is a "self preservation feature" of the GE Profile Advantium and maybe some other models. Read the manual, When your over the range oven gets warm enough, for whatever reason the venting fan comes on until a satisfactory oven temperature is reached. You are not permitted to shut the vent fan off. Also it seems a temperature near room temp must be achieved before it shuts the fan motor off, it is very annoying. We had to return our Advantium because of fan noise. I configured the ovens vent fan to the recirculate direction because we do not have a vent duct that exits the house over our range. When the vent fan acting as the ovens cooling fan automatically turned on we would have to leave the house to hear each other talk. Too bad we really liked the oven other than that major problem.
