TV sparking when hooking up cable

I just moved my tv into my new home and the tv turned on fine but when the cable guy went to hook the cable up to it would start sparking. I did not know if anyone knows how to fix this problem.

The connector for cable. Everytime the cable guy plugs the cable into the back of the tv there is a spark and a popping sound.

Thank you for your help. Around the connector for the cable now is black, like it is burnt. The cable guy said when we intially unplugged the cable while moving it might have stripped a wire and that is causing the spark.

What exactly is sparking? The connectors, the actually TV? is it sparking when you try and plug something into it?

Hi, there is a sparking sound probably because whatever your cionnecting it from is still on. So switch of the unit where the cable is coming from, maybe its froma signal booster? and plug it into your tv, also there maybe still current running through your tv so switch off your tv aswell. It is quite common for connectors to spark when the equipment is on because the connector is try to make contact and there is a voltage present. I'm guessing that the TV works fine once the connector is inserted in or hasnt your cable guy gotten that far yet?

As long as its not a large spark and the source which the cable is connected to is not a high voltage source, which I dont see any reason why it should be. Also check the grounding of the cable. Considering you have a cable guy installing the equipment I'm suprised they do not know whats going on.....

Samsung 42" Plasma HDTV cable hookup problem

There sould not have been sparks. Check the following: Using a voltmeter check between the cable itself and ground. There should not be any reading (anything less than .1V is normal). Check again between the inner hole of the RF connector and the outside part. Again there should be less than .1V. If you read any voltage at the RF connector, the TV is faulty and should be exchanged. If you read voltage at the cable, have teh cable company check again.

Hooking actual live coaxial from Cable Co. to Insignia Converter Box ...

Based on the specs that I have read I am going to say you cannot hook up cable to the converter. Best thing to do would be to call cable company that provides service there and see if it was turned off on the billing side they probably just didn't come out and disconnect from the pole. That might give you service but missing some features such as tv guide channel. Now some tv's have tv guide built into them and maybe in the move that feature on the tv was turned off it they were using it that way before. Here is what the specs say about that converter:

Use this digital-to-analog converter to convert digital TV broadcast signals to analog signals on analog TVs with antenna-based reception.

Female coax connector in tv bad?

If your cable converter box has audio/video connections on the back of it,you don't need to worry about using that RF coax connector. Just hook it up the same way your DVD is hooked to the TV input jack. Get a 3-wire cable (yellow-red-white)hook it to the same colors on the back of the cable box and hook the other end to an unused input on the back of the TV. Then select that input with your remote and watch TV.
