Winterizing a LXIH Hobart dish washer

We are shutting our Lodge down for 3 months and need to winterize the dish washer. Will probably get down to 0 degrees. It is hard piped in and would cutting the pipe and draining be enough.
thanks, Joe

Joe - The main issue is that the builtin booster heater is full of water - it has to be drained - there may be a small drain plug (square-shaped head), if not, you may have to pull loose the heater element to drain the tank. I would pour antifreeze solution in there and also in the wash tank. Unhook the water inlet - you say the machine is hard-plumbed in but mfgr recommends using brauided water hose to connect to water supply. hopefully this helps - I service commercial machines and came across your question and maybe you can ansqwer one of mine - how do I cancel the "delime" indicator? I can't find operators manual. jimmy.

Hi i am a hobart certified tech the only way to cancel your delime is to cancel this function in the service mode. also you must crack open the fill valve on parker valve and let the water leak out of the bonnet or the valve will split when it freezes

I have low water pressure How do i get more ?

If this is just on the outside faucet then you probably have a shut off in the house for winter/maintenance shut down. Look in the ceiling from the basement where the pipes come in and follow that until you see a valve. Turn it on and you should have water. Most of the times the shut off is just inside the wall from where the faucet is.

What causes water to overflow in drain pipe when rinsing?

Probably 1 of 2 things. First you may have a partial clog of the drain, can be a pain to unclog, snaking the drain usually helps. The other could be the line you have running into the drain could be pushed down too far where its lodge funny in the drain pipe, I would pull it up and out of the drain pipe a little to give it a little more room.

With this said, I'm betting you have a partial clog in the drain.

How much space should i leave between loops on roof tape?

1st You must know that you can attach the heat tape by spiral wrapping, or by straight run (in- line with the pipe); held temporarily with a few pieces of tape. Of course you will need to apply an insulating wrap (in either case).
The straight run gives the least heat per foot but covers more pipe. The tighter (closer) the spiral wrap of the heat tape loops, the more heat per foot but the shorter the coverage. If the pipe is 1/2" or 3/4" DIAM. then a straight run is sufficient. If 1" to 1 1/4" then a very wide spiral. If 1 1/2 to 2" then a closer loop spiral. In no case should the loops touch each other nor be closer than 3/4" to each other. And avoid having the heat tape cross itself at valves, elbows, etc. PLease note that this is all based on winter temps of 0 degree F. or above and using normal 1" THICK WRAP INSULATION. If you have temps down to -30 or so, then give minimum 2" thick insulation.
Good Luck Macgivor.

Hello, I have a whirlpool Caprio washer, WTW6500WW1, washer was overloaded with a large load of heavy clothing, circuit shut off, thus washer shut off, turned circuit back on, cleared washer of all...

i would suggest sticking to a simple washer. newer washer are digital and they look very nice and easy to manage. But the warranty will not cover washer if motor gets wet. not even the factory warranty. Here in Dallas we had a hard winter storm around the time of the super bowl. it was hard to get around. the pipe in the laundry room froze and as it thawed out the pipe burst causing the washers motor to get wet. It is going to cost me more to fix it then whats its worth. Now im out 400.00. My suggesten to anyone thinking of buying a digital washer don't warranty only covers normal wear and tear. ive only had my washer for 5 months.

Wash Temp will not get above 140

It depends on the design & the programming. By chance if the thermostat is faulty this can happen. However refer user manual and consult the service provider or the manufacturer!

My frig. in the garage.. The freezer works great in summer months but in winter months it doesn't. Why is that?

Good day,
That is normal. The thermostat that runs the whole machine is located in the refrigerator compartment.
When it reaches normal temperature, it shuts off. In winter months that may mean as long as 12 hours or more. Thus not enough running time per day to keep the freezer near it's normal temperature.
Engineers design domestic refrigerators to be in an area comfortable to humans. Normally 70 degrees or higher. Thus your problem.
The only solution is to bring the machine inside.
Sorry.

Thank you for using FixYa

How to install pipe work, hot or cold fill?

You probably want to split into the hot pipe for washer. Never good to wash dishes in cold water. Soap doesn't get all the way and can cause cancer down the road from intake of too much dishsoap.

You can go to howstuffworks.com or youtube and view installation videos which are helpful.
