Chateau Model 2739 screw for handle keeps spinning

I want to replace the cartridge in my Moen Chateau Model 2739, but when I try to back the screw out of the handle it just keeps turning. I have sprayed it with WD-40 and have tapped the back of the handle, but nothing seems to free it. What is the next step? I was thinking of using an easy out, but did not want to damage anything?

I pulled the handle out until it was past the cartridge jacket then sawed the handle and the screw in half. I found that the plastic portion of the handle that holds the cartidge was broken, hence the reason the screw felt loose.

I have a Moen tub and shower system similar to the Moen 2919 Chateau two handle above. When I turn on the faucets up to 1/2 way everthing works fine. If I try to increase the water capacity by turning up...

To talk about your problem forces me to assume a few things.....If you allow the water to flow without cartridges and handles, the water must be flowing straight through the cartridge channels and out into the tub. It is not flowing through your tub spout or shower head when you test the water this way. If I'm correct, then the problem is isolated to the water mix operation. That means coming out of your spout or shower head. So now I have to ask a question. When you operate as normal (cartridges and handles installed) does your problem show up only on your shower head or does it also show up when operating out of the tub spout? If the problem is isolated to the shower head, try a head replacement. It may be partially plugged. If it's head or spout there may be something in the mixing pipe that only shifts around as pressure increases. I hope that is not your problem. It would require pulling those pipes out for inspection and most likely replacement. Nimsgame

I have a Moen Chateau bathroom faucet (chrome, 1-handle)...I don't quite know which model, but it's an older faucet. When I pull the knob to turn it on, sometimes water leaks down the back of the faucet....

yes it sound's like you need a cartridge.i think the # is 1225,you might also want to invest in a cartridge puller also, moen make's one, and brass craft make's one as well.

Compatible replacement handles for Moen Garden Tub faucet

I dont know if moen made chrome handles for that valve back then. If they did then they will probably be lever handles but they wont turn correctly unless you remove the cartridges and turn them. Iwould suggest probably replacing the whole unit.

Trying to get the handle off a single handle moen kitchen faucet

Hi adelinette,

Pry the cover off the top of the faucet with a little screwdriver. Under the cover you will find an allen head screw. Sometimes a little upward pressure with a screwdriver will help. Unscrew it and start disassemblying. Pay attention to part location as you take the faucet apart. you will be replacing a stem and not a washer when you get into it.

Good Luck and please rate this response, Phil

Handle Removal on Chateau Style Bathroom Taps

the handle removal is a metric allen wrench some of the cartridge replacements come with an allen head wrench

I always plug the drains and completely remove the allen head screw then the handle comes off
Sometimes you have to pry it gently or take a hammer wrap a towel around the handle where it meets tthe cartridge base and tap up under the handle lightly and it comes out

God Luck
