Smp-512mb will not stay on

My grandchild got a jensen SMP-512MB mp3 player for Christmas. It worked find for 2 days. Then it does not stay on. My computer will not recognize it either. It did before it went on the blink. Is there a reset button or something?
When I press the on button "hello" comes up. A few seconds later "bye bye", and that is it. Is it dead? If so what can I do to revive it?
