I need to replace the cord on the beater brush attachement for s3614 hoover powermax.. can't find parts. I was able to pull apart the brusher, but I cannot release the wire to resplice and reconne

I have a runabout powermax by hoover. the brushed edge cleaner cord is faulty. I took it all apart, but they have some kind of button/seal to keep cord in place, and cannot get it out. All I need to do is to remove the button that holds the cord and re-splice the cord since I cannot get parts for this unit anymore. it is a Hoover powermax s3614 beater brush attachment.

How do I dissassemble the beater bar?

It's fixable if you don't wait too long. Dirt and hair get under the end caps of the brush roll causing friction which causes heat which can damage the vacuum nozzle housing. If the housing isn't damaged you may just need a new brush roll and new belt.

Have a Hoover model S3670 and the beater brush no longer spins. Have checked the beater belt and it is good, did find out that the light bulb in the unit was bad. Any suggestions on how to test the motor...

I usually test the motor with a cord with alligator clips on the wires, and attach them to the black and white wires on the motor ( remove the belt first ). A very common problem with this model was a short circuit developing in the short cord that runs from the nozzle motor into the swivel neck. This is probably where the problem lies. Replacing the cord is best left to someone with experience.

Some of these types of hoses, if there is a male plug on the end that goes into the wall outlet, could be that one side of it is fused and will have to be replaced. When something happens like a short or a bad brush roll stall, this fuse will open up. If you supplied the model number I may habe been able to look it up and see. But if the hose end cuff comes off, then you can check it with an ohm meter to see if one side is open or not.

LOUD NOISE FROM HOOVER POWERMAX ii

These vacs can stop up in almost inaccessible places. That sound means that it has stopped up somewhere and the electric motor is in a strain. Keep it running like that long enough and the motor is toast. I have one that seems to prefer the hose area where it goes by the motor and into the bag. The tube from the motor to the bag also is prone to stop up. To take these apart requires that you start at the beater bar area and work you way inward. In certain areas if you look closely, you'll see little arrows pointing to the screws. These are the ones that will allow you to get closer to the innards of these. When you get to where the motor is, look for blockages from the attachment hose. It takes only small items to completely block it off which will effect performance from both the beater bar/normal intake and also from use of the hose itself. The b***ards can be a pain to keep functional. I've personally removed rather sizeable wads of dog hair from mine that mucked up the works rather than went into the bag. Belts for the beater bar are notoriously short lived in these as well. When they break, the vacuum is only good as a floor sweeper. Stock up on both belts and bags for these. Good luck!

I don't know what is your experience with wire's soldering, but you should remove the insulation from the damaged wire and solder the disconnected edges. Then wrap an insulation band on the repaired wire first and then on all the other wires. Be aware power cable is disconnected !!!! If you can't do it by yourself - repair cost for it should be very cheap. Good luck !!
