Sorry to tell you this, but that sounds like your amplifier's DSP or DSP power supply/control circuitry has failed. DSP stands for Digital Sound Processing - Source Direct bypasses all internal amplifier digital processing, which is why you have sound here. Unfortunately, you'll want to brace yourself for an expensive repair, because DSP components are difficult or impossible to troubleshoot for a servicer, though sometimes it is something simple and quick.

If it's under warrantee, obviously it'll be covered - if not, you may still consider contacting the manufacturer for repair. They're often less expensive than local servicers.

Picked up a av-d58 and cannot hook up my previous subwoofer setup. I have a tester setup that has been proven to work with anything. I checked and re-checked on other systems I own and the tester works on...

Can we simplify this a bit. It sounds like you're making more of the task than it requires.

When you say "can't hook up my previous subwoofer", do you mean physically impossible or that you can't get it to work after it's attached? This receiver requires a self-powered subwoofer.

Do you have the manual? The receiver is its own tester. I have no idea what kind of tester you're using.

Get it here. and give it read. Pages 6 and 19 discuss the subwoofer.

I have a Aiwa Stereo Receiver Av-D58. The sound

If I remember this model correctly, there is only 1 direct input. The remainder of the inputs are bufferred through a switching IC. It is likely that this IC is defective. Are there any other symptoms at all?

On 5.1 receivers, some inputs can be switched to Digital/Optical/Coaxial instead of Analog (RCA cables) - look for an Input Mode button. If this doesn't help, turn the unit off, then power it on. If you don't hear a click 3 to 7 seconds after turning it on, it may be in Protect mode, and simply be a coincedence that it failed after installing the new cables. This can be caused by several things, most of which require in-shop service.
