The CD-ROM (Drive:G)

Insert a blank diskette into the floppy drive. Click start click on computer you should see all of you drives.

Right-click on Drive A. You will see the option to format the drive.

Click on Format. Depending on your operating system, you will see an option that reads either "Create a system disk" or "Create a MS Dos system disk." Click the box next to this option.

Click the "Start" button to begin formatting the disk.
When completed, you will have a bootable floppy disk.

For CD Rom or DVD disks

Open the software that you use to burn or write files to the CD-rom or DVD drive.

Click on "Make a Data CD or DVD." Insert a blank CD-R or DVD-R disk into the drive.

Look for the option to "Make this disk bootable." You may have to scroll over the various icons displayed to find this option. Click on the option.

Burn the CD or DVD as usual. Once completed, this disk can be used to boot your computer.

How to Format a Computer with Windows XP
The first step in learning how to format a computer with Windows XP or 2000, is to insert Windows CD and restart your computer.


Your computer should automatically boot from the CD to the Windows Setup Main Menu.


At the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER.


Press F8 to accept the Windows XP Licensing Agreement.


If an existing Windows XP installation is detected, you are prompted to repair it. To bypass the repair, press ESC.


Use the ARROW keys to select the partition or the unpartitioned space where you want to create a new partition. Press D to delete an existing partition, or press C to create a new partition.


Type the size in megabytes (MB) that you want to use for the new partition, and then press ENTER, or just press ENTER to create the partition with the maximum size.


Select the format option that you want to use for the partition (Recommended: NTFS), and then press ENTER.


After the Windows Setup program formats the partition, follow the instructions that appear on the screen to continue installing Windows.





How to Format a Computer with Windows 95, 98, or ME
To reinstall Windows, you will need a Startup Diskette and a Windows Installation CD.

Download the Startup Diskette Creator

Note: We recommend using the Startup Diskette available on this page. Other Windows Startup Diskettes may not work with the following steps.
Once you have your Startup Diskette, insert it into the floppy drive and restart your computer.


Select option #1 - Start the computer with CD-ROM support.


After a minute or so, you will see "A:>_".


Type "fdisk" and press Enter.


If asked to enable large disk support, select Y for Yes. (Note: Some versions of Windows 95 may not be compatible with large disk support. Select N here if it does not support the FAT32 file system.)


Select Option #1 - Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive.


Select Option #1 - Create Primary DOS Partition.


The drive integrity will be verified.


Unless you are planning to make multiple partitions, select Y when asked if you want to use the maximum available size for the partition and to make the partition active.


The drive integrity will be verified again.


When completed press the Esc key to exit fdisk.


Without removing the floppy disk, press the reset button on the computer or press the keys Ctrl then Alt then Delete and release them together. This will restart the computer.


Again, select the option to Start the computer with CD-ROM support.


When you see A:>, directly above it is a message about your CD-ROM drive. It will tell you the letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive, take note of it.


At the A:>, type "format C:" and press Enter.


Press the Y key then the enter key when asked if you want to proceed with the format.


The format will probably take some time, so be patient.


You will be asked to choose a Volume Label, which is a name for your hard drive. It has no effect on the operation of your computer, you may choose any name you like.





How to Reinstall Windows XP
To reinstall Windows XP or 2000, imply insert Windows CD and restart your computer.


If your hard drive has not been formatted, Windows XP will walk you through the formatting process described above


Your computer will automatically boot from the CD and begin the installation process



How to Reinstall Windows 95, 98, or ME
After formatting your hard drive as described above, insert the Startup Diskette into the floppy drive and restart your computer.


Select option #1 - Start the computer with CD-ROM support.


After a minute or so, you will see "A:>_".


Place the Windows Install CD into the CD-ROM drive.


Type "E:" (where E is the letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive) and press the Enter key.


Type "dir" and press Enter. You will see something like the following:

Volume in drive E is 020409_1121
Direct

Remove Flopy disk from Flopy drive and CD from CD-ROM drive. Restart the system.

Make sure there are no disks in either your 3.5 diskette drive (if you have one) or your cd rom drive. If there is a disk in either one take it out and reboot. If no disks are present or this does not solve the problem, go to your setup screen and see if the hard drive is recognized in there. If it is not than you may need to replace your hard drive. If it is recognized then you will have to setup the system to boot from the cd drive and re-install your Operating System. Good Luck!

When you install Microsoft Windows XP, you may receive the following error message:
[Files Needed]
The file 'Asms' on Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.
This issue may occur if the Setup program cannot communicate with the CD-ROM drive.
To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method for your computer.
Hard disk formatted with FAT or FAT32 file system
If the hard disk is formatted with the FAT file system or with the FAT32 file system, follow these steps:
Use a Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) Startup disk with CD-ROM drivers to restart the computer.
Copy the Xcopy.exe tool from the Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM, the Windows Millennium Edition (Me) CD-ROM, or the hard disk to the Windows Startup disk. To do this, use the appropriate method.
Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM
Insert the Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then at the command prompt type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line, where cd-rom is the drive letter of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive:
c:
copy cd-rom:\win98\smartdrv.exe
copy cd-rom:\tools\oldmsdos\xcopy*.*
Windows Millennium Edition (Me) CD-ROM
Insert the Windows Millennium Edition (Me) CD-ROM in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, at the command prompt type the following lines where cd-rom is the drive letter of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then press ENTER after you type each line:
c:
copy cd-rom:\win9x\smartdrv.exe
extract cd-rom:\win9x\win_17.cab xcopy.exe /L c:\ xcopy.exe
extract cd-rom:\win9x\win_17.cab xcopy32.exe /L c:\ xcopy32.exe
extract cd-rom:\win9x\win_19.cab xcopy32.mod /L c:\ xcopy32.mod
Hard disk
At the command prompt, type the following lines where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk where Windows is installed, and then press ENTER after you type each line:
c:
copy drive:\windows\smartdrv.*
copy drive:\windows\xcopy*.*
Eject the Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Me) CD-ROM, and then insert the Windows XP Professional CD-ROM.
Copy the I386 folder and all its subfolders to the hard disk. To do this, type the following lines at the command prompt where cd-rom is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive, and drive is the drive letter of the hard disk, and then press ENTER after you type each line:
smartdrv
xcopy cd-rom:\i386 drive:\i386 /e
Restart the computer, and then start the Setup program again.
When you receive the error message, click Browse, and then type the path of the I386 folder on the hard disk.
Note You may be prompted several times for the location of this folder. If Browse is not available, see the "Hard disk formatted with NTFS file system" section.
Hard disk formatted with NTFS file system
If the hard disk is formatted with the NTFS file system and you are upgrading an earlier version of Windows, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. When you receive the error message, press SHIFT+F10 to start a command session.
Type regedit.exe, and then press ENTER.
Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
On the File menu, click Load Hive, and then load %Windir%\System32\Config\System.sav.
When you are prompted to specify a name, type Test.
Locate and then click the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Test\ControlSet1\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Delete the UPPERFILTERS and LOWERFILTERS registry keys.
Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the other ControlSet# keys under the Test hive.
Click File, and then click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
If the path in the error message is the correct drive letter for the CD-ROM drive, click OK to continue the Setup program.
If you receive the error message again, the Setup program cannot correctly read from the CD-ROM drive, or the path information is incorrect. In this case, restart your computer and let the Setup program resume.
Method 2
If you cannot start Regedit.exe at the command prompt, and there is another available partition where you can install Windows on the hard disk, follow these steps:
Install Windows in the other partition.
Start the new installation of Windows, and then start Regedit.exe.
Follow the steps in method 1, but load the System.sav hive from the original Windows folder.
Method 3
If you are not using a retail Windows XP CD-ROM with a hologram (for example, if you are using a burned CD-ROM), try to run the Setup program from a retail CD-ROM with a hologram. To verify this, start the computer by using Recovery Console, and then check the C:\$win_nt$.~ls folder. Look for the Asms folder. If the folder is missing or the files that it contains are zero bytes, the CD-ROM was not burned correctly.

Most likely then its a hardware issue with the drive, try the following:
1- Plug the USB key into the computer 2- Click Start 3- Right Click on Computer (Win7) or My Computer (XP) and select manage 4- Select Storage and then Disk Management
Here you should be able to see the drive and it will show if there is media or any type of partition on the drive. If it the USB key still shows up as a CD-ROM and you have tested on two computer its the key that is the issue and you would need to replace it

Windows 2000 boot disks allow you to by-pass damaged Windows 2000 operating system files to get your computer up and running in a solid, stable configuration. You simply tell the computer to access the Windows 2000 codes necessary for start-up from your floppy disk drive rather than the hard drive. Creating the set of four boot disks is specific to this version of the operating system

1. Step 1 Insert the Windows 2000 Professional CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. Insert a formatted, blank diskette into the floppy disk drive. Have three additional formatted, blank diskettes standing by.
   
2. Step 2 Click "Start" at the bottom left corner of your computer screen to open the start-up menu. This lists the start-up actions available for Windows 2000. Select "Run." The program then asks you to designate the drive, program, folder or file you want to open by either typing the destination or clicking "Browse," to select the destination from the Windows 2000 directory.
   
3. Step 3 Click the "Browse" button at the bottom of the pop-up window. The PC's hard drive directory window appears.
   
4. Step 4 Browse the computer's hard drive directory and select the CD-ROM drive to designate it as the destination you want to open. Click "OK" to open the CD-Rom drive. The folders and files saved on the Windows 2000 CD now appear in the directory format.
   
5. Step 5 Select the "Bootdisk" folder. A directory of files appears.
   
6. Step 6 Double-click the program file "Makeboot.exe," then click "OK" to launch the Windows 2000 boot disk maker program. The program checks that you have a formatted diskette in the floppy disk drive and then begins to make the boot disk.
   
7. Step 7 Watch your screen as the process of making the boot disk progresses. The boot disk for Windows 2000 requires four diskettes. The program cues you to remove the first diskette and insert the second, and so on until all four diskettes are created and the boot disk making process is finished.
