Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

I got prematurely disconnected yesterday. Before getting disconnected yesterday, I was thinking that the Sony HDTV may have a bad blue CRT since when I took off the front cover, it looks the far right gun does not light. Going from left to right, the gun colors appear to be red, green, and blue. The far right light gun looking at the TV CRTs from the front appears to be out. I tired adjusting the blue pot but it does not show any blue color at all. This seems to be consistent with my impression that the blue CRT is not working. This is recent and is a follow up to the blue light surge on turn on and then shut down. After repeatedly turning the set on, it would stay on and operate with all three colors. Now, it seems to only have green and red.

Could you show a picture of the distended cover you mentioned?

Were the light blue lines you were referring to, diagonal, or truly horizontal?

SOURCE: Lines horizonal - seems to be caused by voltage to green CRT

Your green CRT is shorted. To test put your red crt socket on the green and your red on the green. then try turning up red control if the green now works its not your tube. If the same thing happens with the red socket on the green you can be sure its the green CRT if the green works properly with the red socket, then you have a problem in the green drive circuit and not the CRT. hope this helps.

You need to replace both convergence ICs they are STK392-120 this is an easy repair that you can do yourself and save yourself around 400.00 for about 45 minutes work. You can order the new ICs at the following link and they provide free installation instructions with pictures and also free online support with a support tech while you do the repair. I am one of their support techs. You would also want to order at least 4 convergence resistors and they send the proper ones for your model as often a couple resistors go. Your model uses 6.8ohm 2watt 5% metal film resistors. So to recap you will need (2) STK392-120 Convergence ICs and (4) Convergence ICs . very inexspensive repair if you do it yourself. here is the link.

Blue missing from picture and low brightness; whites not white shades of yellow and pink; blues are green

its most likely the Blue CRT drive board which is causing the issue since the set would not power up if the Blue CRT itself were bad, so the drive board is the most likliest. You can get the blue CRT drive board from www.tvrepairworld.com

Turn on the big screen sony tv, but fades to blue

You probably have a bad BLUE CRT. Due to the cost and the length of time it would take to repair, I would not invest the money into it. It would require a Qualified Service Person to come to your home and remove the BLUE CRT assembly and send it back to SONY to be rebuilt. Estimated cost would be around 800.00. I would check prices of a replacement set.
I hope this helps,
