DID YOU RECENTLY ADDED RAM?
it can be the problem, or some connections with mainboard,
try to start uip with the less elements possible
if you succeed booting,
from another cpu, download and do a floppy/cd from this BIOS and retry with full devices connections.

My sony vaio desktop (model vgc-rb60g) powers on then gives a continuous high tone and nothing else. nothing sent to the screen.

I understood your problem.
it's a beep code. That beep code indicates the nature of the problem with your CPU.

these beep codes are different as per manufacturers see the booklet provided with your CPU which shows continuous beep indicating type of problem.

If further cause such a problem then you should remove all connection to HDD and RAM and re-connect it manually.
Thank you for giving me opportunity to solve your problem.

please give me your Ratings!!

Powers on for 5-6seconds then beeps one time and shuts down

Here are the beep codes for common BIOS programs:

1 BeepA single beep from an AMI based BIOS means there has been a memory refresh timer error. The solution is often to replace the RAM in the computer.

A long beep from AWARD is probably memory error.

1 short beep from AWARD bios & PhoenixBIOS and most others is a positive ok signal.

Without more information, it sounds like it is a memory problem. Remove the memory and see if it will boot to the BIOS/setup screen. If so and you have multiple memory sticks, put one in and try to boot. If that fails try the other.

Is it beeping?  If so, here are the Beep Codes:

Different PC manufacturers have different BIOS Boot codes.

Trying to upgrade cpu.

Here's a direct link to the service manual of the NetVista 8303-21A:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/netvista_pdf/24p2969.pdf

On page 13 of this manual:
Microprocessor (varies by model type): Intel® Pentium® 4 processor with 256 KB or 512 KB of internal L2 cache memory and Intel NetBurst™ micro-architecture.

It seems that the computer's motherboard does not support Intel P4 processors with more than 512 KB of internal L2 cache. That's why your P4 2.8GHz/1M/533 Prescott processor did not work.
You will have to either buy another processor with 512 KB L2 cache, or replace your motherboard with one which supports the new processor.

It does not boot but only makes abeep sound when trying to load windows

This issue is due to Hardware. The reason for the same are as follows :

1. I dust accumulation around the processor and CPU fan. resulting in overheating of the system.

2. There might be a lose RAM in your system. A firmly attached RAM is needed for the system to boot up.

3. The hard disk is not firmly connected to the system giving the beep.

4. There might be lose data cable connection(the one which connects Hard disk to Mother Board) resulting in no detection of the hard wares.

5. CPU fan might not be working. Or the processor fan is not working.

Please check for all the reasons for this problem.

If need more help please post back.

If you doesn't hear any beeps, at least you must hear one beep.
Clear CMOS or remove the Lithium Battery CR2032 in the motherboard about 1 minute, to know which MB is hang up with processor, then put it back again & power it on.

Boot your PC into "Safe Mode" (tapping the F8 key on boot to get to the option) and run a full/complete Virus scan with Anti Virus with up to date virus definitions and see what that yields.

Singlle long beep on booting up my Biostar M7NCDPro motherboard with nothing on screen

If you get one continuous beep (Long and Non-Stop)
This could happen if:
1. The Power supply is damaged or bad.
2. The BIOS is corrupted. Try resetting the CMOS using JCMOS1 jumper on the motherboard or remove the battery from the motherboard for 20 minutes. At this point the first thing to try is a different Power Supply to see if the result is better. If the same problem happens with the new power supply, you may need to send the BIOS Chip to local dealer for reprogramming.

If you get one long High Pitched tone that does not stop until you disconnect the power supply:

1. Check if the CPU fan is connected to the JCFAN1 connector.
2. The CPU might be overheated. Change the CPU FAN or check if the CPU fan has proper contact with the CPU. Refer to your manual for CPU installation.
3. Clear CMOS battery (JCMOS1), be sure to set JCMOS1 back to 1-2 position. (See Quick start guide/ user manual for more info on how to clear the CMOS)
4. Make sure the power supply you have on your system supports the M/B specification. Example. If you have a P4 M/B, you need to use an ATX v2.03 specification power supply. (power supply that has an extra 4-pin square connector)
