I have taken it apart twice and there's some kind if metal piece at the back of the motor around the shaft -when I move it, it snaps into place and the dryer will work again- but it still makes the loud buzzing noise with an occasional loud click and then after awhile stops completely. When I try to start it again, it makes a humming noise but the motor doesn't turn over.
Sounds like the motor's done. That thing is probably the start-run switch. Not worth trying to fix on an old motor. I've found dryer motors to be fairly generic, you should be able to find a replacement. I use Repairclinic.com when I can't get parts locally.
