Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

I was given this laptop from my brother who no longer needed it, it has already expired as far as the warranty so here goes. We will turn on the computer and it will go into startup repair mode and just hangs there. Should we purchase another laptop? I do not have any of the installation disks that came with the laptop.

I  would suggest just get a  Operating system reinstalled

Manufacturer warranty is typically 1 year limited parts. This means if a hardware, NOT software goes bad within 1 year of purchase date you can contact acer to get a RMA number and ship them the laptop for a part replacement. This does not cover accidental damage, ie you drop the laptop, split something on it or drop something on it.
Places like best buy will sell two types of extended warranties, and are typically 3 years. The cheaper will cover the same thing as the manufacturer but for 3 years. They also sell a more expensive warranty which will cover accidental damage as well. None of these warranties will cover acts of god, theft or software problems
These extended warranties will be the same thing if purchased from acer or any other computer retailer. Also sometimes they are longer periods of time like 5 years.

You should inform the customer about the warranty coverage. You have to let them know that onece the warranty expires they will be limitted for any support any computer manufacturer does have that kind of policy. IF they have reported the issue before the warranty ends they should still be entitled for any support or possible repair you can do but they we're not able to report it before warranty expired it's their responsibility to take actions with the system. I believe all computers got initial 1 year warranty for it .

Toshiba A205-S5879 laptop won't boot


Please resort to your installation discs that came originally with your computer package. Those install discs can be used as recovery discs. Try to do an OS repair install from those discs. If the problem still persists, I would suggest to wipe and format the hard disk and start a clean installation again. I understand your warranty expired but if it was only let's say three days ago, it should still be disputed. If your new installation doesn't work either, then I would suggest you contact your supplier to work out a replacement of your hard disk. Good luck.

Flashing red light


It is an indication that the battery is beginning to fail. Portable system batteries have a useful life of approximately 300 to 500 recharge cycles on average. (Some last longer, some shorter)

If the battery is over a year old, then the warranty on the battery is expired. You'll need to purchase an new battery

If your computer's warranty is expired, you can go ahead and purchase extended warranty for your computer by contacting HP Support.

Let me inform you that ongoing issues will not cover under this warranty.

The extended warranty will be updated within a month time.

Ispiron b130 wont turn on


Hi!

Im sorry to inform you that the motherboard on your computer needs to be replaced. If the ac adapter light turns on if not plugged into the system and when you do plug it in, it dims or flashes, that's a right out symptom that the motherboard needs to be replaced. Do you still have warranty for that system? if you do, call Dell Tech Support and have them replace it. If the warranty is already expired, please call Dell at 1-800-2884410 for an estimate on how much it would cost you to have the motherboard replaced. Usually would be around $400 - $500 and 5-8 business days. Unfortunately, you have to ship the system back to Dell for that repair.

Regarding a warranty/windows vista upgrade


You can get it done at Bestbuy, but their very expensive. Take it to a small computer shop in your area, you'll get the same technical service at a much better price. Here at my shop, I can undercut the local Bestbuy by $100 every time. As far as the ram goes, 384 will run Vista, but it will be a little sluggish. Upgrading the ram will improve the performance of the machine and is always a good idea.
