SOURCE: recording

This sounds like the CCD sensor is faulty ( this is the device that generates picture in both v-cams and normal digital cameras and sits behind the lens ). Playback is fine but no image ( or very 'noisy' image ) in capture mode. Easy to repair but one has to put a new CCD block in.

SOURCE: Samsung camcorder

Although my question might sound stupid, but did you charge the battery? The camera should be having a li-ion battery, which does not retain its charge for long(a week or so) which gives the battery a longer life.

If this is not the problem, could you explain the "ticks like a clock" in detail.

I could also be due to the tape getting jammed.

SOURCE: samsung vp-d87di camcorder How can I

i am now facing the same problem but i found that i need to buy a mini DV cable to connect from the camera to the computer, the USB connection to the computer only allows you to transfer digital images from the camera that you have stored on the memory stick which you may not have inserted in the camera as the computer indicated to you

Doesn't sound like tape is recording or rewinding, power is up and unable to do anything because of e04 error

An e04 error is an error given by JVC camcorders that relate to a video head failure in the camcorder. The video head needs to be replaced as well as alignments to the unit. I hope this helps.
