Question about Computers & Internet

When I start my Acer Aspire3650 it says "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM You can attempt to repair this by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair." I haven't got a CD-ROM, I was never given one. What do I do?

Frances,

If your in luck and the recovery partition is intact then this should help you.

When the ACER splashscreen is showing at bootup press <F10> to start eRecovery. This should startup a Dos style recovery program. From there you should be able to restore the system. If at anytime during the restore process it asks for a password. the default one is six zeros that is "000000".

If eRecovery does not startup or does not complete the restore you have a couple of options.

1.) Contact ACER customer support and request a recovery disc (Likely to charge you for the disc and shipping)

2.) If you know someone else who has an ACER and the same version of Windows as you, you can use their PC to burn a recovery disc from eManagement

3.) If you got your ACER with Vista on it, It likely came with an "Anytime upgrade" disc (This can be used to restore your OS)

4.) Purchase a retail version of the operating system ( Likely to be the most expensive, but also possibly the quickest way)

Hopefully this was helpful
Thanks
Dave

You shouldhave to reset the CMOS settings, by accessing th bios and usually use F10 key before validate and retry
if not working, you should do as you reinstall windows, by booting the win xp/vista cd, and do the very first "blue" steps of installation

you have to LET THE FILE SYSTEM AS IT IS
try to install, but IN ANOTHER DIRECTORY (like c:\wind for example), then install, and at the first reboot, it willask you wich installation to boot.

choose the secoind in the lik (it is was your unnaccessible one)

My acer aspire one netbook will not open XP because its corrupted or missing. alt+f10 does not work

If you have the windows disk or restore disk for that computer, pop it in and repair the install, that will replace all the main files with the origianl, including the one you are missing. Short of that, you can find someone with the same netbook and copy from that one onto yours, placing it in the location the error suggested it was at. Beyond that, you can take it to a repair shop and they will hook it to their network as just a network location and copy from there to your pc so it will boot. Out of those 3, the disk option is the best, and free, with the freind option obviously 2nd due to being free. I know how tight it can be financially for a college student so good luck.

Have corrupted files on my acer travelmate 2300

So are you running xp or windows 7, either way you could put in your operating system discs and go through the prompts and repair computer, windows 7 will find error and correct as will xp, but with xp if you choose repair you will lose all updates and servicepacks, or you could try these instructions on the link below

Following files missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system

Well this means one of important files needed to start Windows is corrupted (it's a registry file).
I'd recommend repairing Windows installation. If you have Windows XP and also the Original Windows CD follow: this guide.

I own an ACER ASPIRE 5732Z-443G32Mn, my problem is with the webcam which is not working. When I'm trying to open the cam the following message is shown on the screen, " The program can't start...

Hi

Just reinstall your webcam driver to fix the missing DLL FILE.

Or go to this link http://www.dll-files.com/.

If still the same, the only solution is to reinstall the operating system and reinstall again the webcam driver which might be corrupted with the windows registry file.
