How do I stop a black line appearing on the copy of an original document

    Many thanks for the solution, sadly there is no problem when i use the glass area. The problem occurs when the sheet feeder is used. As the original goes in, the copy comes out with a line down the page from top to bottom

Try this- Make sure the whole glass area of the copier is covered with white paper,
ie. lay the document face down, and any glass area you can still see- cover with sheets of blank white paper

Bizhub C652 has horizontal lines.


its important to find out whether the \'lines\' are in scan direction/ or only through Radf or only from scan glass,

if the lines are only showing when documents are fed throught the Radf, then the problem lies with the document scan plate( left of the main glass platen (about 2" in width)) or with the scan plate blade cleaner

if the lines ONLY appear when copying from the Glass then the issue lies within the optics (probably nothing more than a clean will be needed)

another question would be to ask if the lines are solid (black line overprinting image) or if they are \'missing\' lines where the image has failed to copy, sometimes it can be hard to work out which side the fault lies,so try shaded greys as a copy original .

if the scan lines are appearing on both Radf and Glassplatten ,mode then the issue may be dirty optics/ccd sensor or it could e an indication of the ccd failing or image control pwb in error while interpreting the image file.

what to do

1) place a grey sheet of paper in the Radf and have the copier photocopy both sides of the original and print to single sided sheets ( so the printer turns the original over to complete the task)

observe the result.

2) have the copier photocopy directly from the platten glass- single sided.

observe the result.

ckeck to see if the error has appeared on both sets of prints ,

if the error has only appeared in the first set of prints then the issue may be a tiny DOT on the slit glass (left of platten) - a dot on this glass will indeed appear as a Line as the original is scanned across the glass.

Black lines on copy only when printing but copying is ok i.e km 1650


If this only occurs when using the document feeder then you will need to clean the smaller glass that sits next to the large glass that you manualy place your documents. The document feeder scans the originals over the small glass and any ink ,whiteout that may be on the glass will appear as lines down the pages

I have a Ricoh Aficio 1013 that prints fine but copies are unclear and off

I recently installed a new laser cartridge. Shortly after, when copying a document, two black vertical lines began appearing on the copy. What is the fix for this? The black lines do not appear when...


Clean the scanner glass. When I had that problem, I set a copy with lines on it in the scanner feed to see where the problem was, and when I lightly ran my finger on the glass over where the lines were, I could feel two small bumps. I just scraped them off with my fingernail, but here is the HP solution for cleaning your scanner glass:

We have a black line down the center of all copies...


If the problem only happens on copies or sent faxes then no it is not your drum. There is something on your scan glass. My guess is you are getting the line on your copies when you run the original through the document feeder. If you get lines through the document feeder but not on copies made off the glass then it is a dirty scan glass. There is a thin glass strip where the document feeder feeds the original. Usually something like white out that did not dry smears off an original and ends up on this thin strip of glass. Scratch it off with your finger nail and use some glass cleaner to resolve the problem. The scan glass is about 1/2 an inch to an inch wide and will be on the same side of the machine that the copier feeds the originals in on

Horizontal black and white lines are coming on copy


you don't mention whether the document you are copying also appears on the paper.If it does you could have 1 of 2 problems-
The drum cleaning system could be at fault or-
the fuser roller has picked up some **** easy test...... run copies and when the 1st copy edge appears switch OFF. This is a crash stop.Now examine the sheets in there.Is the stripe on the copy before the fuser (Heat) roller? If yes you could have a drum cleaning problem, usually fixed by changing the drum module.If no and the stripe appears after the heat roll, the problem is with the fuser system,dirty rolls etc. There are a number of other problems with stripes, but you have to start somewhere! If the document does NOT appear on the copy, forget all above, could be scan or ROS problem

I had the same problem. I cleaned the strip above the glass and this fixed the problem. Hope it helps!

Black lines


There is a thin strip of glass that you will see when you lift the top feeder. There is most likely white-out on it.

When you use the top feeder, it doesn't use the large glass, it only 'rolls' the original document over this small strip of glass.

Print Problem - vertical lines


If the problem only occurs when using the document feeder, the problem is not usually caused by the drum. When using the document feeder, try to notice where the scanner (the light assembly under your scan glass)stops just before the paper is being fed. Some multifunction machines have a small piece of glass that is separate from the large scan glass and the scanner assembly stays parked underneith it as the original is being fed over it. Most likely there is something on the glass where the scanner parks as originals are being fed thru the feeder. When putting your original on the large scan glass to copy, the mark on the glass will only show as a spot, but will show as a vertical line thru the whole copy when using the feeder.

The small scanner glass (not the full size glass) has some dirt on it. Use a lint-free cloth (not paper) with alcohol or Windex and clean the glass. This should help.
