My USB keyboard and mouse work during BIOS setup but stop working at Windows log on. What can be done?

pick up and insert a usb keyboard with a touchpad, you can get them all day at Wal-Mart, and run your windows again. Sometime you also may have to wait up to 5 minutes to detect devices. also try using your Tab key to move around. All of this has worked for me in the past. Good Luck. Also try Safe Mode. Also try USB mouse. Good Luck.

Mouse & keyboard not working

You're "stuck" -- if the circuitry for the PS/2 keyboard and mouse is not working, and if it does not recognize a USB keyboard, the motherboard must be replaced (by an identical moetherboard, if you can find one, or a "newer/better" motherboard that takes the same CPU and RAM as your current motherboard).

I can't install vista any mouse or keyboard detected

Often times this happens when using a USB keyboard / Mouse.

Or when using a USB keyboard through a PS/2 Converter.

Try using a PS/2 Keyboard if available
(Small Round connector with a small amount of pins, similar to a S-Video connector.)

Also. Access your BIOS settings and assure that you have Legacy USB keyboard support.
Depending on your computer the BIOS / Setup Menu / Options Menu/ Etc. can be accessed by pressing the following key during boot:
F1
F2
ESC
DEL
F12

Let us know your setup(KB and Mouse Port type), and if you have any other issues.

Good luck

Problem

That particular board has PS2 ports on it. I would suggest a couple of things. If you have a PS2 keyboard, plug it in and use it since legacy USB support might not be turned on in BIOS.

If that works, go into BIOS and turn on legacy USB support and then try the USB KB again.

Secondly, if you don't have a PS2 keyboard, get your manual out and clear the CMOS. It might be that the legacy USB is turned off and clearing the CMOS will re-enable that (assuming it is done at the factory).

Good luch.
