It might be overheating, there is a fan in the back on the cdplayer, it might have went out, or is fully of dust.

Turn garmin on it flashes the garmin logo then shuts down

hELLO THERE:
First off i would check the power cord to see if the fuse is bad and check the fuse in the car too
if all good than press and hold in the reset button for 2 minutes to let it fully reset it'self. and if this still does not work i would have the unit inspected by a authorized shop to see if the internal fuse has went out ok? i hope that these solutions have helped you out.
please dont forget to rate these solutions that i have provided cause it helps me so i can continue to help you too>

Make sure you have good amount of room around the back of the unit. It sounds like you may have an overheating problem. If that isn't it, you have a bad ground or +.

Shutting itself down

Its usually not a fault that you will see unless somethings burnt up. This is solid state electronics and you dont see this stuff go bad. But in the meantime try disconnecting the speakers and see if it still goes into shutdown and at the same time have a dc multimeter attached to the speaker outputs. If the unit comes on and you dont see any DC at all or very very little B+ on both speaker terminal sets then you may have a defective speaker. If you do see dc then thats why the protections comming on so you dont blow out your speakers. If you dont have any equipment or dont have any electronics experience I would then take the unit to a repair person for an estimate. Good Luck
