Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, you would be interested with video capture software such as from Pinnacle. Additionally, you would be needing firewire cable to hookup the camera to the computer. This would be built-in to the camera but may not be in the computer. If the computer is a desktop, then a firewire PCI card adaptor may be needed. If the computer is a laptop, then a PCMCIA card with firewire port would be required. In some instances, purchase of this card or even a tuner card would include a basic software for transfer of MiniDV Digital Camcorder to computer. One thing to keep in mind though is the transfer is realtime, a 1hr movie would need 1hr transfer time.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

GR-D347U, a miniDV vcam, must be FIREWIRE**-connected to pc to upload video thru video capture or video editing (VES)* software while vcam is on playback. Vcam-4pin->CABLE->Pc (4/ 6pin?). Before cable** purchase, note: DV or Firewire port of vcam is 4pin...check the firewire port of PC whether 4 or 6 pin. If none, procure firewire card: pci for pc or pcmia for laptop (Google).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire

for starters, free Windows Movie Maker* (XP-wmm2 & Vista-wmm6) provides simple & easy way to learn the ropes < click help for details>. Upgrade to other video editing app accdg. to need & skill level

If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

    According to your camcorder's manual
    http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/01...
Refer to page 34, "Connection to a Personal Computer". Note that the DV cable (Firewire, IEEE1394a, i.Link - all the same thing) indicates the cable is optional - that means it did not come in the box and you need to buy it separately.

Do i need software for jvc mini camcorder model gr-d347u

If you are asking about software for transferring your tape to your computer, your computer should recognize when your camcorder is plugged into it and it will install the appropriate driver.

Attached is a link to the user manual. You will need to refer to the "editing" section. This should have all of the instructions that you need.

Hope this has helped you.

Does the JVC Digital Video Camera GR-D347U have an external mic port?

Hi, The GR-D347U doesn't have microphone jack, it only has Audio/Video output connector and Digital Video Connector[DV in/out]. If you are familiar with the non-linear editing I'd like to recommend to use the digital recorder like mp3, ipod etc, then you can mix that on the video with the clear audio from your subject.

My JVC model GR-D347U has a cracked LCD. Where can I find a replacement part? From, Kev North Hollywood,Ca

I can tell you that one from JVC will cost as much as a new camcorder. For a cheap replacement your best bet is someplace like ebay. People usually part out stuff or you might find a complete 'dead' jvc there. You can also google online shops that do repairs they should have these as well.

Farily easy diy repair just pricey part.

There are 2 possibilities for that symptoms in JVC GR-D347U camcorder is either aparture in lens mechanism is stuck and does not pass image towards CCD Imager OR ccd imager itself got bad.
Qualified camera tech can fix it because it requires expertise.
If you want to fix it, download service manual from HERE for small fee, that will help you how to disassemble/ apart camera and part info etc.
Thanks.

I can't find a cable that fits my JVC GR-D347U camcorder

How old is the camcoder?

Is it digital?

You may need a video capture card installed on your computer to transfer video to your system.

Check ebay for a "dazzle" box.....

Good luck
