When one or all the colors are bending severly, then the convergence circuit is not functioning correctly and must be repaired. Only one color bending means just the convergence ICs and all colors bending means convergence ICs and voltage supplies. Convergence issues are the most common problem with rear projection (w/picture tubes) televisions. The cure is replacing the convergence IC's. Sometimes the pico fuses need replaced as well. If you have the experience to use a soldering iron and a basic understanding of electronics, then, you may be able to do this job. If not then call a servicer in your area. Go to the Sony website,, and you can locate one in your area.

Replaced Convergence chips, same problem

This set has pico fuses on convergence board and also on G power board, there should be 2 5 amp pico fuses on power board.

If convergence is bad exactly as before double check the power board fuses and check to see if voltage (it is marked!) is there with power board disconnected from chassis..

KP-61HS30 Sony TV turn pink and green text is bowed

Check out CONVERGENCE GALLERY . If you see your symptoms you have a problem in your convergence amplifier circuits. Typical Sony Convergence repair requires disassembly for replacement of 2 ICs, sometimes a fuse or 2, then TV is like new.

It is much more complicated than changing batteries on your remote. Many consumers try unsuccessfully to do a convergence repair. I recommend finding someone competent to do it for a reasonable price. Typical repair shop charges may be from $400 to $650.

If you are in the Calgary area, call me. More reasonable rates.

Sounds like it needs convergence chips. This repair requires test equip. and soldering/desoldering tools. Most repair shops charge between 200.00 and 400.00 to do this repair on your model of tv. Hope I have been some help

Uniontrip, im afraid you have a problem some other 3 illion other rear tube projection set owners face or will face in the near future. Its called a convergence problem. You see there are Two IC's inside this set that correct the alighnment of the three picture tube alighnment to each other to get a steady straight picture. To fix this problem, both IC's should be replaced together as a whole, even if its only one IC bad now, you can bet your bottom dollar, down the road, the other will go bad as well. If you have any solid state repair experience and know how to unsolder and solder printed circuit boards, this is not really a difficult job to do, as they are two black IC's standing up against a metal heatsink and the lettering on them will start with STK###-###, the # being other numbers. Now since these are solid state sets and they really have noi USER replaceable parts inside them, it is always best for the non experienced to refer to a trained repair technician to do this sort of repair. Most of the time, a repair such as this, should not exceed a couple to a few hundred bucks. Good luck. Please do not forget to rate this thread.
