Go to Control Panel, open device manager, and and check for any yellow checks for your sound, video and game controllers. If there are none, your system is go. Then go to your audio manager on control panel, and set it up for whatever speaker configuration you have. I have realtec audio manager. This step is a must for configuring—you choose whether your laptop will use its own speaks or use your external speakers—you have to turn off the internal speakers and turn on the external--be sure your laptop speakers are plugged in.

My Soundsticks suddenly produced no sound at all. I did all the obvious things to no effect. I then went to "System Preferences" on my Macbook Pro, clicked on "Sound" under the Hardware category and found that my "Output Volume" had the Mute box checked. I unchecked it and the problem vanished. I have NO idea how the box got checked since I didn't do it and the speakers worked fine until today.....

Try adjusting the 2 side speakers stands, I found that I had a very low level of sound but as soon as I discovered that the base's tilted the sound improved. (like on the picture on the box) Also in I tunes, try selecting 'get info' in 'file', then select the volume option and move to 100% and select the relevant pre set graphic equaliser eg. classical. This sounded great to me but my side speakers are not lighting up? Any suggestions appreciated?
ps. I have a mac book!

This was me just being an idiot....i thought I had the same problem after just moving my speakers around on the desk, i thought I had jarred a lead or something.
I didn't even know that these speakers had touch sensitive volume control on the right satellite! Little silver bits at the front. I had accidentally turned mine down. Idiot.
Hope this is of help to someone!
I felt dumb when I realised :S

A solution that ignores the fact that the problem is with a Mac there is no start. The person who gave the answer is a moron
