13 years old Sony ICF-SW7600 not working

I have a 13 year old Sony ICF-SW7600. The radio has not been used for a long time. When I switched it on recently the radio does not work on any band. I could only receive very low signal from a local radio station. The local radio seemed to be not changing even I tuned the radio to a diffferent frequency. Please advice if there is anything I can do to fix this radio.

Thanks

My radio was stored for over a year. When I turn it on it plays well for a minute or two and then the reception is lost. When I turn it on again later it plays well then fades away again. Seemed like the batteries were running down fast. They are OK. The problem still occurs when using the AC power supply.

My SW7600 has no fuctions at all, the clock is working ok. I thought the power switch is lacking its continuity with the diodes beneath.

My 7600 suddenly stoped receiving all AM throughout all frequencies, except for constant background QRN. Plays FM bands okay, though. This happened suddenly last night after radio had been sitting for a couple of years (batteries out). It played okay for about 15 minutes, then nothing.

Sony radios of this era had notorious capacitor problems.... also several other brands were affected. These capacitors were underrated and the technology to make them was not at it's best back then. The cure is to replace the capacitors on the board with new electrolytics. About 28 of them need to be replaced but the big problem is to find someone to do this. the original capacitors are surface mount and must be removed and new radial lead caps put in their place, some are rather tough to get at and the new ones have to be placed carefully. My SONY ICF-SW7600 now works as new and maybe even better!
I have done this myself as I have skills working with surface mount capacitors. I offer my services to those who cannot find service for their radios. Please email me for details, I am not into making bucks on this, I just want to see these radios kept working and bringing enjoyment to their owners.

I have had a Sony ICF SW7600 for the last 18 years. Now, it only wishes to work on batteries and not on the AC adapter anymore. What can be the problem and how to fix it

I have the exact same problem here in Europe with my perfectly with my Sony shortwave after 18 years. If I fiddle with the ac adaptor in the radio plug, it works for a while. I have replaced and soldered the yellow tip adaptor twice in 18 years and hopefully the problem is with the power plug and not the radio plug.
Any help is appreciated.

Advantage of (1980s and 1990s) Sony ICF-SW7600

Some newer radios do not have the quality build that the old ones had. The switch over to cheaper labor countries have lessened the quality and lack of good parts have lead to newer designs but not always better. My old SONY ICF-7600, not the G or GR, has a great receiver on LW and MW but after replacing aging capacitors!
