I have a Bernina Activa 130. I tried to sew over some leather, started fine, then the needle got stuck and I stopped right away. Now, the bottom threads keeps bunching. I have re-threaded the machine, new...

You need a fatter needle. The skinny needle will not open the leather enough for a smooth flow of thread and that's why the bobbin is bunching up when the top thread is sticking. Make it easier on your machine by using an appropriate size needle while sewing leather.

Needle string wont stay connected

You are missing one of the steps in your threading pattern. Sometimes it is going the wrong direction when threading the machine. Check your owners manual or go on line to the manufactures website and it will give you tips on what to do.

Check the bobbin tension and that the thread is tight around the bobbin. Make sure that the bobbin is in the right way around - the bobbin thread should double back on itself coming out of the bobbin holder.

Sewing 1/4" leather. Bottom thread

You did it backwards!!! Reset the bottom tension to the default position, with heavy threads its touchy to get back to normal. Turn the upper tension about 1 turn clockwise (tighter) and try. No luck, try a turn then test, then a turn, test.....The size of the thread can cause issues as well. We mostly use #69 nylon threads, but the 1541 can use # 69 to 192 without to many problems. look in the book for how to reset the bobbin case tensions. The 1541 is a wonderful machine, much better quality than the chinese junk being sold nowadays.

What brand leather needles are you using? Keep machine out of Sun ok. All leather needs to be in cool or room temperature. try loosening bottom tension just alittle or top tension, I would start with bottom......I also use commercial polyester thread when doing tougher materials..

Very inexperienced sewer! How do I thread it?

The way I solved this problem was to take a break! When I resumed I was more patient and found that I wasn't doing the bobbin right. I took my time and got it right this time....hooray!

Bobbin unravelling on prolectrix 8 stitch sewing machine

did you put the bobbin thread in the tensioner? that would be the cut in the side of the bobbin case to pull the thread under the tensioner. if not it will cause problems. but if the top thread is looking good then the top thread is the problem, thread the machine with the presser foot up to let the thread into the tensioner, if it looks good on the top and not the bottom it is the upper thread if it looks good on the bottom and not the top it is the lower thread

You are sewing heavy thread in a machine designed for sewing clothing but it can be done. Use a size 18 needle or a top stitching needle(it has a larger eye). Thread the machine and adjust the tension to 8 or 9. Set the stitch length at 3 or 4. If you still get loops on the bottom, wind the thread around the bobbin winder thread guide once for more tension and then thread it normally. If you do this, lower the tension to 5, test sew and then tighten the tension until the loops go away.
