Waher i have a roper top washer. when it is filling to begin washing water leaks from the bottom. while it is washing it does not leak just when water is being filled in it. I can't figure mine out. The water seemed to be coming from the drain hose between the pump and the drain outlet, so I pulled that off and tested it and no leak. So I pulled the pump off and tested it - again no leak. Where should I look next?

My washing machine is a Roper top load washer. The problem I am having is that the pump from the cold water drain from under the washing machine. Do I need another pump? The hot water will work. I use the...

This model is a direct drive with only one pump, the drain pump. If the drain pump leaks, which is a common problem on these models, it will leak no matter what temperature wash is selected! If you a have a leak on cold, it will probably also leak on warm wash. Your problem is your solenoid operated fill valve on the cold side. Only one fill hose comes off of this combination fill valve to your fill plenum at the top back of your tub. So if it leaks on the cold, but not hot, check for a crack in the plastic housing of the valve on the cold half. The valve is located on the inside back of the machine on top right when looking at the front of the machine. They are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace.

Hope this helps

Washer is leaking water on bottom of unit

If the water is gushing from the washer, check the small plastic air dome hose on the lower right hand side of the wash tub. Sometimes the hose can come loose and come off. This will cause the water to begin pouring out of the bottom of the the washer when it begins to fill. The following link lists some other items you may consider as well:

The link explains how to remove the exterior washer case in order to accurately inspect the washer interior components for the source of your leak.

If the leak is more like a constant drip, another common source of leaks with Whirlpool manufactured top loaders is a leaking drain pump. These pumps are not serviceable and if damaged, must be replaced. The following link explains how:

Don't forget to check all drain hose connections under the washer and the center tub seal.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartrsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. the first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying the parts you may need.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Roper washers are manufactured by Whirlpool, so these instructions will apply.

Roper washer leaks when filling

It's in the drain hose somewhere, during the fill the water gets as deep in the drain hose as it does in the washer, during the wash the pump runs in reverse keeping the water level in the hose low, during the drain the hose is filled again.
Prop the washer up in front on a couple bricks or boards, start putting in water until it starts to leak and take a peak under the machine.

Washer leaks when running full loads

This could mean the fill level is not working properly and there is an overfill situation. Generally[I don't know 'Roper'] the fill level is controlled by a 'bottle' like device at the fixed to the outside of the drum at the bottom with, with a fine tube leading to a disk like thing near the top of the machine- with wire coming from it to the controller. The 'disk' thing is the pressure sensor. and the bottle thing is supposed to fill with water and the air pressure in the tube actuates the switch in the 'disk' Overtime the 'bottle' will get clogged with crud and need cleaning out. This will mean taking it off and giving it a good cleaning. Hope this helps.
