SOURCE: desktop gone blank after installing avira

The cause of this problems is corrupted system files cause by the anti-virus or spyware... follow steps below for solutions.

Step 1: install the OS and install the spyware and anti-virus. set your spyware and anti-virus configuration to delete the files manually first if they detect a virus or spyware in your computer..

Step 2: Run the first scanned for your anti-virus and spyware.. after the scan is complete you will be ask by spyware and anti-virus what will you do in the detected viruses or spyware in your computer? but don't decide yet.. check the location of the files that is detected.. you must not delete any files detected in the "Windows Directory" mostly it is located at C:\Windows\, because it will cause your Operating System to corrupt if files is deleted in that section.. try ignoring or adding the files in exception in the anti-virus or spyware exception list (I recommended adding to exception list), and you may proceed with the others.. after complete scannng put the setting of your anti-virus and spyware to its default settings..

Cursor is frozen in the middle of the screen, i have tried FN 9, and it is enabled. So frustrating can anyone help.

Sometimes I just wait...
Pressing Ctr.+Alt =Delete will bring up your Windows Task Manager which may restore control over the mouse-cursor connection. It's a god idea to have it running al the time minimized on your taskbar anyhow.

Dell dimension 9200 can log on then just black screen can see cursor

roop_gill,
Try the steps mentioned below. Run it in normal mode, when you see the cursor press CTRL + ALT + DEL if the task manager pops up, go into the application tab, click on new task, type explorer.exe and hit enter. If this does not work then in safe mode update your video driver.

Thank You,

My sony vaio laptop will load then goto a black screen with a cursor when there should be the log in screen. ive tried pressing shift 5 times and pressing f 8 what do i do

You have an infection.
You need to load the explorer.exe
Do as follows:
When you are at the black screen with the cursor, press Ctr+Alt+Del, and start the Task Manager console.
From the File menu, select New Task (Run...)
Type explorer.exe and hit ENTER.
Your Desktop will appear again.
From there, try to clean your system from all infections.
When your system is clean and back to normal, look into a protection system called Pc Laptop Guard, so you wont have to go thru this or any other inconvenience again.

Looks like its an infection to me.
When you get to the black screen and you are able to move the mouse, try this:
Press Ctr+Alt+Del, a message will pop up.
Select Task Manager
A Task Manager window appears.
Click on File and choose New task (run)
Type: explorer.exe
Press the enter key.
You should be able to see your desktop again.
