There are three probable causes ...

A bad print head, a bad print head cable and a bad logic card - more often than not it's the print head

Horizontal print gaps on ml184+

Hello,

The most common cause of missing sections in the letters is a bad print head. These types of printers (Dot Matrix) create the print with the print head which has a line of small pins called hammers that are activated by an electromagnet. Each pin has its own hammer. If the electromagnet fails or you have something jamming the hammer then it will not move to strike the ribbon and make the image or letter. You can get a replacement print head online for about $15.00, the part number is 50063802. Here is a picture of what the print head looks like. :

My printer has stopped printing the letters onto the dvd properly

1. Remove lid/top
2. Move blue lever left or right to unlock ribbon roll
3. Loosen ribbon or tighten as needed -
NOTES: If ribbon roll is too tight it will show wrinkles; it should look smooth if positioned correctly; if too tight it will not print portions of some letters; keep re-positioning if this does not work after first try.
4. Use flat-head screw driver to adjust front uptake (used) ribbon-roll as needed to make it smooth too. Lift out & re-position, if you need to.
THIS WORKED FOR ME but I had to re-do my re-positioning of both rolls several times before it began printing 100% of letters again. 4bb240d8-5e9d-4611-9ca4-33b5883e40b9.jpg 5a5b4381-7ee8-480f-943e-041aa738011d.jpg c86d59ae-1b7e-4755-b895-08007064e847.jpg Journal Kentucky Lexington Monitor www jklm us

Bad print quality

you have not mentioned what printer it is? DMP, Inkjet or.....
if it is DMP you check the print head whether some pin(s) missing and if so you have to replace the print head

Check the print wheel to see if any spokes are bent or missing, be sure that you have the proper correction tape (tack free) and that you are not in proportional space or have an international print wheel.

It sounds like you may have a broken (or perhaps stuck) pin in the printhead. Check for missing dots in other letters also, or if printing a graphics object, again, a missing dot, consistent throughout the print. Other possible causes of a pin not being "fired", are a small break in the ribbon cable from the printhead to the control circuit. Look for a tiny crack or break in the ribbon, especially along the edge. Also, a defect in the electronics which control the printhead pins will cause this. If by chance the printhead is all gooped up with old ink, a pin might merely be stuck. I have taken printheads out of dot-matrix printers and soaked the pin area (area closest to the paper) in rubbing alcohol, or used Chemtronics cleaning chemicals to spray off the old sticky ink. Messy job: don't wear a clean white shirt! Lastly, if a pin is broken, either the printhead must be replaced, or sent in for repair, assuming repair centers still exist. In years gone by, I have sent in heads, and gotten them repaired successfully.

Oki 520 missing print

You have replaced the item which is commonly the cause- the printhead. The other possible problems are: a connection break in the printhead ribbon cable, which makes electrical connection from the driver circuitry to the printhead. Look for a tiny crack, especially along the edge of this ribbon cable. Another possibility is an electronic component defect in the circuitry which fires the printhead, or maybe a loose solder connection in the same circuit. Lastly, when you replaced the printhead, are you reasonably certain the replacement head didn't have a broken top pin or two?
