Black Box over screen when playing DVD's

Anyone have this problem. I have a panasonic player and when I scroll through the menu or press play or select any function when playing a DVD, a black square appears on the screen. I was told to reset my factory settings. Any one know how? I don't.

I got a new machine, when I transfer from VHS to DVD-R it records, but will only play on the machine I recorded on, it doesn't load on other DVD players, why is that?

You need to FINALIZE the DVD-R you recorded in that unit for it to be playable on other DVD players. This function should be part of the on-screen menu for your unit. (in Panasonic DVD recorders, it's under DVD MANAGEMENT in the FUNCTIONS menu).

If the disc you recorded is already loaded, but stopped, press SETUP on your remote - an on screen menu should appear.

Using the UP/DOWN arrow keys, select DVD MENU and press ENTER. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys again to select FINALIZE and press ENTER.

A message box will popup 'Finalize disc?' use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select YES then press ENTER. Finalizing should start and may take a while to complete.

Once complete, the disc is now playable on other DVD players. (from page 32 of the owners manual with the heading 'PLAYING THE DISCS IN OTHER DVD PLAYERS')

NO COLOR ONLY BLACK PICTURES

carl,

i'm not familiar with this brand but try to access" setup menu" from your remote control.

1) from your remote control , locate button indicating "setup" and press it
2) viewing your screen there should be a dialogue box or this display board indicating 'Audio setup" Video setup" etc....
3)scroll arrow key (up/down key)and go to "video"
4)in "video setup there should be a dialogue box or drop box asking you to select either " Auto" " PAL" or "NTSC"
5) choose auto and see if anything change in your screen.

cheers,
mark

Recordes but dont play back

before you can watch a recorded DVD on another DVD player you must finalize the disc. to finalize the disc put the recorded disc into the DVD recorder, when the DVD loads it will show the titles that are recorded on the DVD on the screen
push the stop button it is the button with the square on it. the screen will go blank or it may let you watch whatever tv channel you are on if you have your tv ran through the recorder, push the setup buton a new screen will come up, with the arrow down button scroll down and highlight disc edit, press ok another screen will come up, with the arrow down button scroll down and highlight "finalize", press "ok" it is the button in the middle of the arrow keys
scroll up and highlight "yes" press "ok" the recorder will finalize the disc and it can be watched on any DVD player, just remember when you finalize a disc you cannot add anything else to the disc.

If you select the HDMI channel to watch a dvd does it do it then, if not disconnect both ends of the scart lead and reconnect or replace. If the scart lead is not in properly this could happen, when you switch on the player and play a disc your tv will automatically switch to the AV/Scart channel, but you are better off manually turning the TV over to the HDMI Hi-Def channel for DVD.

How do you reset the parental control code?

Called Zenith.  They said: turn on the DVD player.  Hit "set-up". Scroll down to the "lock" icon.  Scroll over to "Rating". Scroll over to unlock.  Enter 0000.  Click on Ok.  Enter 0000 again, click Ok again.  Menu should read unlock.  Voila!
