Question about Epson Stylus Multifunction Inkjet Printer/ Copier/ Scanner

I have an Epson CX7400. It seems to be telling me to replace ink cartridges and I can see they still have plenty of ink. Is there a way to reset the chips? Seems an awful waste.

Followed the install instructions for the ink cartridges, printed maybe 10 doc's and it tells me my cartridges are already empty. Then I pulled them all and shook them as directed by other support, reinstalled and now it won't print at all!

I replaced the black a few weeks ago. At that point, I was at about 1/2 full on the rest of the colors. The cyan recently requested replacement (which I did) but once I replaced the cartridge it won't print at all -- says all of the colors and black are empty. I've tried reinstalling them (no help) so I just purchased all new ink. Still nothing.

Replaced one cartridge that it said was empty, then two more said they were. Finally replaced all four cartridges. After a few copies, cyan says it's empty. I believe Epson designed their cartridges so they actually remember they were detected once as empty. This is probably an attempt to thwart those "refill" sellers. Of course it also means that if the printer falsely detects an empty cartridge there is no way to clear the problem. The refill places will sell you a device that resets the cartridge memory. Also Epson designed this printer to not print if any color is empty. So I can't even print B&W. Clearly this printer was designed by marketing people who wanted to sell more ink, not by engineers.

Epson have regularly tried to bully people into only using their inks. They do not seem to understand that whilst people moan about the cost of fuel for their car, the general public would be up in arms if they had to pay around 1,000 times their current fuel cost per litre - which is approximately what Epson ink costs, so of course users want to get better workable value from their cartridges - and at lower cost. It's even cheaper to use refillable cartridges, the advantage then for high end users is they can choose to use independent high quality archival inks that more than compete (often exceed) Epson's own quality standards. As long as your printer keeps working - ignore the messages. Clearly the cartridges you have been using satisfy your requirements - so keep them coming.

This is the only advice I can give you.

The next step would be to disassemble the Epson, and clean the Pads/Heads. Click on link below.:

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?
ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

How long should an ink cartridge remain in the printer? When an installed ink cartridge is more than six months old, you may need to replace it if your printouts do not look their best, even after cleaning and aligning the print head. I know you said you changed the ink, but you must use Genuine Epson Cartridges. Epson Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!

EPSON Stylus CX7400 won't accept ink cartridge

Mine acts up this same way (more often than not). I've found that as I install new cartridges, it helps to "tilt" it towards the chip end so that it "rubs" as it's going in. You'd normally hold both sides when replacing a cartridge but I don't even touch the outer end as I do it & it seems to help the printer "see" the replacement when installed.

Epson Stylus CX7400 Ink Light Problem

You need to open up the maintenance window and go thru the motions that you are changing the cartridges and this resets the ink levels back to full and sends data to the printer saying that they are full and the ink light disappears and it prints fine !!!

Just changing them doesn't seem to do the trick like on a lot of printers
