2170. The Creative 2.0
SOURCE: Timing is off on my Pfaff 2140/2170 machine.
Basically on any sewing machine to time it you will need to separate the two gears that drive the hook. Usually loosen the set screws that attach the gear to the shaft and separate them.
Time the hook first. On center needle position, set the hook so that the point is behind the needle when the needle bar has risen about 2.5mm.
2) Set the needle bar height. Choose the needle position which is the last for the hook to pass.
(Left on most machines, right on older Vikings) At this point, place the point of the hook behind
the needle and set the needle bar height so that top of the eye is just barely below the tip of the
hook.
3) Check feed timing. Set the stitch length to the longest stitch. The needle should enter the
fabric just as the teeth drop below the surface of the plate.

Mine does the exact same thing. I think the problem might lie in the cord to the foot pedal. The cord packs into the foot pedal for storage, which forces the cord to to remain bent during storage. I believe the wires in mind became damaged and broken so I took it apart and reconnected the wires at the spot where the connector meets with the wires. But I still don't leave it plugged in if I'm not using it, it could be a fire hazard.
It happened to me... Check the bobbin and thread in the shaft ... Pull out the bobbin and remove all thread from the shaft. Pull out any thread remains with the tweezers. Check the feeder dogs and the needle (see Owner's Manual 2:7). Re-insert the bobbin (see Owner's Manual 2:12).Make sure that you use a good quality thread and set everything up correctly. Good luck!
