Hi
I have found a couple of web pages that may be useful to you, as they explain how to change or clean the absorber pads. The first is here: How to Clean Canon Ink Absorber
and the second here: How to replace the ink absorber on canon printer eHow UK
I have always found printers very fiddly to muck around with so I am not sure that I would try this. Good luck.
Check if the ink cartridge is compatible with your printer. There are only 2 models of Canon Black Ink that is compatible with MP470. PG-30 11ml and PG-40 16ml.
Pressing the OK button will allow you to continue to print.
Since the cartridge has been refilled, the printer ink level monitoring function will not work
is there an error code, i know with cannon it has to be there cartidges or you will get and error code( as in a #) now i also remember that on a canon both cartidges have to be in machine and in the correct slots and in a tight position. try hitting ok on printer and see if it prints even though you get an error message that would tell me it is bypassing the ink cartidge and then if i were you go back through the steps i the manual for replaceing an empty cartridge with a new one .
There may be settling in the nozzles of your cartridge that has prevented the ink from flowing out properly, especially if you are using a remanufactured cartridge. The first tip on this page should help:
Best bet is to take to a service center unless you want to take it apart yourself and change the pads. After the pads are changed you can type "canon mp470 reset ink" in your google search bar and it will walk you thru the steps to reset the counter. Remember, you need to replace the pads 1st. If you don't they may overflow and you will have ink everywhere.
Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

The MP600 does not use the 40 or 41 cartridges, it uses individual color (and black) ink tanks. But other models (MP190, MP460, MP470, etc) do use these cartridges. The error message you are receiving indicates that the printer does not recognize the cartridge you installed as a valid black ink cartridge. This can mean that either the cartridge is faulty, or that the printer has a problem.
I would suggest trying another new cartridge, and if you still get the same error, to contact Canon for support options if the unit is still in warranty.
