Question about Panasonic TH-42PZ700U 42 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

2" vertical line down a plasma screen

The line is not always there, it may come and go.  The tv is only 3 years old and for the price of this Hitachi, I hope the tv is going bad.  Is this a cable issue with the HDMI and Uverse connection?

Hello, you may have to get your tv serviced soon. it is developing internal board trouble. the plasma screen is controlled in sections by different boards or they work together to produce a sustainable image. it helps to have a picture to see what section has the line then you can get an idea of what board or boards are fualty.
there are many resistors capacitors and diodes and all types of components that with time get hot or over heated and loose there resistence properties or voltage values they become weaker or higher depending where the fualt is. this cuases the boards to go bad.
a local plasma service tech can give you an over the phone ruff estimate for the repairs if you can describe the trouble then you can decided to get it restored. the price depends on what board or boards are developing circut fualts. its cheaper to get it fixed now that it is still functional at least you know most of the circuts are okay..

.

good luck hope this helps

Hitachi 50" hd TV displaying black lines on screen

Sounds like your YBL-Y Buffer lower board is going out. There are 3 boards here. The Y buffer upper which controls the top half of the display, The Y buffer lower controls the bottom half and the Y-SUS main control those two boards. They work in unison. Usually if one goes out you have to replace all. You can also get lucky and just repalce the YBL and all may be well. Now if they are vertical lines up and down the OSD-On screen display, then this is indicitive on dry solder joints on the D, G E, F boards. Hope this helps...

Your plasma screen is made up of 1080 verticle lines and now a few of these lines are not working. This is the screen itself and needs replacing.

Hitachi 42EDT41 plasma model-1" black stripe on right side

This is an old post but maybe it will help others. You will have to take the back off of the TV. On the bottom you will see ribbon cables coming from the screen and connecting to 3 PC boards. Take the screws out that holds the cable down. Underneath you will see 4 resistors marked 100. All you have to do is re-solder the resistors and your vertical line will be gone. You need to be good at soldering or you could damage the ribbon. The only ones that you have to re-solder is the ones in line with the lines on the screen.
