Question about Whirlpool MH1140XMS Microwave Oven

No display, no light, no fan, microwave dead!

I have a whirlpool, built in the cabinet, above the range, microwave. I heated some water in a glass container (2 Min) when I saw a flash inside the microwave. I checked the breaker, I unplugged the micro. and replugged it in. Nothing. I even ran an extension cord from an outlet I know is hot and nothing.
The Model # is MH6130XEQ .
The date of manufacture shows January 1999.
Do you think this microwave has heated it's last taquito?

    Did it die as soon as you hit Start, a few seconds after, or a minute or so, etc.?

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

It may be the fuse, which is located in the upper area behind the control panel.


If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

(Don't be confused by the base or hood thermostat, which is on the floor of the chassis. It will read normally open).

The fuse and magnetron thermostat can be checked with out taking the oven down from the wall, but if you need to check the oven thermostat, you will need to pull it from the wall.

Remove microwave built in range


I) empty the cabinet above the unit.
2) unplug the unit from the outlet in the cabinet
3) locate the two bolts near the front edge in the floor of the cabinet and remove them. the unit will tip down to the range below.
CAUTION SUPPORT THE UNIT WHILE TAKING OUT THE BOLTS OR THE UNIT WILL CRASH
4) Two people can then lift the unit from the support on the wall.

Hi I have a Samsung SMH9187 micowave that is dead (no display, light, fan, mirowave).


Sounds like the main fuse blew. It's either near where the power cord enters the cabinet, or behind the control panel (if an over the range unit).

You may also have some type of failure in the high voltage circuit; based on your description of the symptoms.

Microwave not heating


Hi Edward
I should mention (although it's pretty obvious) that Microwave Energy is DANGEROUS.
So it's better not to fiddle with the internals.
A quick test can be done to check for electromagnetic energy (in the 2.45Ghz range) inside the oven. Put a glass of water in the Microwave Oven and place 2 strips of tinfoil across the top of the open glass above the water. Put the strips close together but not quite touching then close the door.
Start the microwave & look through the glass window. Listen & Watch for sparks between the tinfoil pieces. If there are sparks then your Microwave Oven is generating or transmitting electromagnetic energy from the magnetron tube unit.
If it's working Don't leave it sparking too long. The tinfoil can get hot enough to burn. The glass of water is to absorb any microwave energy.
There is an interlock switch on the door for safety to protect you from microwaves leaking out of the door cracks. This switch fails to function sometimes. But normally the oven won't even try to power on or spin the turntable (or Fan) if this interlock fails.
If there are no sparks then your Magnetron is shot. Its usually not worth fixing them unless you know of a specialist technician who is qualified and competent with microwave equipment.

Whirlpool microwave gh7208xrb-3 fuse is good but the unit has no powernothing lights up at all it like it is dead.


Control board might be dead. Cost is quite high could run up to $200 or more. Many times I recommend just to replace it. Here's the dumb question, is power present at receptacle?, if over range microwave, in cabinet above microwave? Check for gfci receptacle tripped. Sometimes fuses appear good, always be sure to test with a meter.

Ge adora over the range microwave, runs but does not heat


Microwaves contain high-voltage parts that can be deadly, even when unplugged, unless handled correctly. Unless you are a qualified expert, don't attempt to get into its inner workings.

First, use this water method to double-check if there is actually an issue with your microwave not heating:

1. Fill a glass measuring cup with water to the 1-cup mark.
2. Set the microwave to heat on full power for 1 minute.
3. Repeat the process with fresh water a handful of times.
4. If the water is not consistently warm, your problem is confirmed.

If your microwave is failing to heat correctly, you may be on a previously programmed setting. Press the STOP/CANCEL button and start the heating process again, but use a higher power setting. This may correct the problem.

If the microwave senses an open door, it will not run. Check to see if a defective or loose door-safety interlock switch is to blame. If tightening it doesn't work, a replacement may be necessary.

Did you know? Neglecting to hit the STOP/CANCEL button on the microwave before you open the door to remove your food damages the safety switch over time.

Microwaves installed above the range may be affected by steam from cooking. Condensation collecting on the circuitry can interrupt heating. Allow the circuitry to dry out by avoiding stovetop cooking for a few days. If you're still having the same problem, it could be a loose connection in the circuitry or a faulty door safety switch.

There may be an issue with the circuit board and its connections, and that work is best left to a qualified professional.

A buzzing or humming microwave that emits a faint burning smell could signal a damaged magnetron, high-voltage capacitor or diode. Replacement magnetrons are expensive, so if a service professional determines that's the problem, you may be better off buying a new microwave. Capacitor and diode parts cost much less, but remember, you'll be paying for the expertise to have them installed correctly and safely. It may still make more sense to buy a new microwave, especially if it's a simple countertop model.

My Russell Hobbs microwave will not generate heat


If everything else is normal, the trouble may be a failed magnetron tube (the microwave source), problems on the control circuit board, or parts in the tube power circuit that are bad. It's also possible a door switch can be at fault, but this usually keeps something else (fan, turntable or light, most often) from running as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. There are potentially deadly voltages present, and a chance of microwave leakage if repairs aren't done correctly. Take the oven to a shop for an estimate, or just consider replacing it if it isn't a built-in, an over the range unit or a high-end countertop model.

Whirlpool microwave 2003 stopped working & inside light is on


The most likely cause is a blown fuse or a kicked circuit breaker. Look in the cabinet above the microwave and see if the microwave is plugged into the ou let in that cabinet. If it is plug a blow dryer or some other little appliance in to that same outlet to see if you have power there. If no power go to your electrical panel and either replace the fuse or turn the breaker off and then back on.

Microwave doesn't work


The magnetron is dead. it can be replaced if you do it it is cheap if you call a repair guy its cheaper to get a new one.. parts roughly areound $100

Microwave heating problems
