Just get a card reader and insert the smart card from the camera into it. It will show up as a drive on you computer. Go into the DCIM file and your pictures will be in there.

You can download a copy of the manual from
http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14559

You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from
http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

When I connect my camera to my computer, it appears to be empty. I have over 1000 photos on it which show on the camera screen, but the computer sees none. I have even tried downloading the drivers and...

First of all, why on earth would you keep 1000 pics on the memory card? They are not meant for storage....they can be easily corrupted and you could lose your pics. You need to get a card reader and use it to download your pics. Then, format the card in the camera for a fresh start and download and format on a regular basis from now on. 5981c0d.jpg
