A black screen, actually purple, means that a firmware upgrade was unsuccessful. You can try to fix it by reloading the firmware, but you are most likely not going to be successful using the USB 'binary'firmware that is available.

There is some 'text' HEX firmware available on the yahoo Explorist user group. To use it though, with your USB cable, you will need to make a small circuit with 1 chip. That site shows how to do it. I am in the process of doing that for an Explorist 400 for a friend. Others have said this is the only to recover such a lost GPS. I'll keep you informed of my success when it happens. I'll probably be sending the circuit/cable I build along to other friends but could possibly fix your for you if you like.

Magellan explorist XL won't power up past a blue screen

Sounds like you got a bad update, you might be able to download an update from magellan, and put it on your sd card then load it that way to finish the update.

The gps was dropped and the inner screen is broken, can I get it repaired and how much will it cost?

You can try to assemble a new screen

http://cgi.ebay.com/Magellan-eXplorist-100-200-210-300-400-LCD-Screen-/350445109117?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519827ff7d

or send you damaged one to magellan and purchase a new or refurbished one at a discounted price.

My recommendation would be simply to replace entire unit unless you have experience fixing electronics.

I left my gps in the cold led screen cracked can it be replaced

From Magellan's web site, http://www.magellangps.com/support/warranty.asp, their policy on broken screens:

"Magellan will replace receivers with a broken display returned within the warranty period with a reconditioned unit of the same or comparable model at a reduced cost to customer. Customers with a broken display unit returned outside the warranty period will be given the opportunity to purchase a new unit at a reduced cost or reconditioned unit also at a reduced cost."

I cracked the screen on Magellan RoadMate1212 & now it won't work

It is expensive! Some distributors (and camping stores) will accept repairs on behalf of an agent. It is doubtful you can just buy the part and fitting requires some fine soldering as well as positioning ribbon cables correctly.
