Door and handle problems. Smeg fa311x

Hi My Smeg FA311X fridge freezer has developed what seems to be a common problem with the handle on the fridge part (top) coming loose and wobbling when opening the fridge. Additionally the fridge only stays closed when pushed shut at the bottom, pushed closed at the top it pops back open again. Any advice gratefully recieved as I can't see what needs to be done to fix either of these problems. Thanks

    Hi

Thanks for your response. I've had a good look at the door seals and they appear to be factory attached, I.e. not removable or replaceable. Quite possible that I am missing a trick.

Sounds like your door is sprung. take door off and lay flat on a table outside of the door down. loosen screws on door liner . screws are hidden under door seal. when all loose not removed make sure door is flat on table. tighten the screws being careful not to move door. reinstall door and it should be ok. this is usually cause be either someone leaning or hanging on the door when it is open. or putting to heavy of items in the door trays.

We had the same problem and were told that gas was not circulating properly. We had it topped up, but it broke a week later. It had to be scrapped.

SOURCE: Smeg Fridge light

What you need to locate is the door switch mechanism for the fridge. These are normally located towards the top of the door and protrude so that when the door closes the switch is pushed in. To find out if you have a problem with the switch just press it when the door is open and the light should go off. The switch itself can appear in various forms either as a protruding rod or a curved plate which pushes upwards against the door side when it closes. If I could draw in this section it could be better explained. But if you look around the inside of the fridge on the side away from the door hinge then you should find something you can push. Sorry to be this vague. If you do need a replacement switch they are normally quite simple to change depending on where they are located, most are two screws, or just a push in type. Hope this has been of some help.

I have a SMEG FA311X Fridge Freezer which I would like to turn into a wine storage fridge. To do this I need to raise the internal temperature significantly (I'm looking to run it at around 13 degrees C)...

you can get an after market thermal control device that would put it into the temperature range you require, contact an appliance parts supplier for your needs.

I have a 2 year old SMEG FAB 32 Fridge/Freezer and the freezer section has suddenly lost temperature. Upper fridge section is fine but freezer not. I have emptied, kept door shut, turned dial up but no success.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be?

Wouldn't expect problems on a SMEG just 2 years old.

You could have a bad thermostat or the refrigerator could be low on Freon, make sure you clean off the exposed coils on the back of the fridge and underneath to free it from dust and dirt – use some type of a blower for underneath and the coils you can vacuum off or wipe off the coils, if not call a service tech to have a look @ the refrigerator – it might have a bad compressor

FRIDGE NOT WORKING

Most side by side and other models of refrigerator freezer combinations are of one basic design. The freezer section does the cooling for both compartments. The refrigerator section gets it cold air from the freezer compartment. Therefore check for frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment. If frost is present there you have a defrost problem and it is cutting off the air that cools the refrigerator section.

I think this problem may already be resolved in some manor because of the date of post. Posts should expire after an unreasonable time period.
