Question about Bissell Lift-Off(R) Revolution(R) Turbo Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Bissell lift off vacuum about 4yrs old. Extremely noisy. OK until before Christmas but getting worse every time it's used. Washable filters washed, HEPA filter replaced. brush bar cleaned of every scrap, hose empty, everything that can be cleared has been. Noise high pitched, screeching and can only bear to use it for a few seconds at a time. Suction OK. Mine is so loud I can't use it very long-high pitch screech. Can this be fixed or does the whole vacuum need to be replaced? It still cleans great, but not worth my hearing. I'd hate to trash it if it can be fixed.

Sounds like a bad motor. Could be either foot motor or main motor either way cost will be more than half of the unit.

I need to know if the filter in my vacuum cleaner is washable?

What I have found over time is that even if a filter is marketed as being washable it really means that the material will not be damaged by water. The key difference here is that it won't necessarily be cleaned better by washing. Electrolux sell a lot of washable filter for example but what i find is that washing only sets the dirt as mud. The problem is that the pores of a filter are incredibly small and water does not dislogde the particles. Remember that in the normal run of things the suction power of the vacuum is actually wedging dirt into the pores.
The best way to clean a filter like that is with an air compressor but it is very messy. Generally speaking a filter will be past it's best after a year or so of usage. My advice is air compress or replace but don't wash.

I have Bissell Powerforce Bagless Upright Vacuum. it doesn't suction well. I checked the belt. It is ok. may be clog in the hose.I don't no how to clean. can you help me please?

- Check the dirt cup to make sure it is empty.
- Your vacuum has 3 filters. Dirty filters will restrict air flow. The filters may be hand washed in cold water with mild detergent. Allow them to completely dry prior to reinstalling them. The white HEPA media post-motor filter is not washable.
- Lift the upholstery hose from the bottom holder. Check for suction at the end of the hose.
If there IS good suction at the end of the hose, please unplug your machine from the outlet and try the following:
- Ensure the hose is firmly pressed into the lower hose outlet on the back of the vacuum.
- Check to ensure the brush is rotating. If it is not, remove the plate on the bottom of the vacuum. Check the belt and clean the roller of dirt and debris.
- Check the lower hose for clogs by removing the screw which attaches it and lifting the hose up to clean it out. Also, remove the larger hose by twisting it off and using a broomstick handle, push any dirt and debris through the hose.

Cleaning the filters

Hello,

There are 3 different filters on this particular model. Two of them are foam, and as washable, the 3rd is a HEPA filter that's located on the back and is not washable, but needs to be replaced once a year.

The most important filter, and the one that most people are not even aware of, is located directly underneath of the dirt cup. Directly under the dirt cup you'll see a black tray that says "pull". Pull this tray out, and you'll find a square shaped washable filter. Simply remove this filter and rinse it under water until it's clean. Make sure to let the filter completely air dry before reinstalling it in the vacuum and using the vacuum again.

The second foam filter is located directly above the dirt cup. Remove the dirt cup, and in the clear plastic housing that's directly above the dirt cup you'll find a circular colored plastic piece. Reach your hand up there, and unscrew this plastic part while pulling downward. You'll find a circular shaped filter that wraps around this plastic piece. This filter may also be washed the same way as the square shaped one, again just make sure that the filter is completely dry before using the vacuum again.

The HEPA filter is actually on the back of the vacuum in a grate that pull down to open it and remove it. This filter needs to be replaced only, and can not get wet.

The foam filters can be washed several times, but will sooner or later need to be replaced, as they will start to deteriorate after a few washings.

If you need to purchase these filters, here are direct links to all of the filters on your vacuum cleaner.

I recently cleaned all the washable filters in my Bissell Cleanview 11 vacuum cleaner and now the unit smells when it is in use. Can you tell me why?

They have mildewed while sitting...replace all the filters and place a couple drops of Citronella essential oil on each NEW filter element...clean after EVERY vacuuming using another vacuum and crevice tool. Good Luck

Turning off / overheating?

Reading of another poster's similar issue caused me to realize there was indeed a third filter in this bagless vacuum cleaner. It was saturated with thick dust that was difficult to remove. Cleaning it cured the problem and I will know better next time to read my manual when I purchase a new item.
I do agree with other readers though that this particular vacuum is not savvy when it comes to picking up dog hair. It would rather push it around for a while then do the job right.

Motor gets hot and stops running

Make sure all filters are clean, also check the inlet by the brush roll isn't clogged as well as the hose. If this is all ok, then there is a problem with the motor. There is a thermo protector that comes with the motor that could be bad.

Sounds like a bad motor bearing. If it is, then you would have to replace it. Could be the brush roll, did you check the ends to make sure they turn easily?

Bissell Lift Off pet revolution vacuum losing suction

You may have a clog in the hose. Unhook the hose and see how the suction is there, if ok, then check the dirt inlet by the brush roll. If suction is low at the hose, then there is a clog in it.
