Screeching noise from eng? dry bearing? Brass(?) dust in oil?
12 HP Sumec eng. Made noise when new out of box. Thought was gen at 1st, now think its eng. Has about 5 tanks of gas thru it. Seems to run OK, really loud dry bearging - like noise comes and goes a little but is there most the time. CKed oil = lot of suspended metal in it. Looks brass colored.

any parts available? Have not tore eng down, if can't get parts may as well run till flies apart?
Surely crank bearings are oil bath? What is in there that may sound like dry bearing?
Thanks for any help, insight,

Re: Screeching noise from eng? dry bearing? Brass(?) dust...
I think there is an engine problem.Disassembly entire engine and check all the parts inside(the cilinder, the crankshaft, the piston, the conecting rod,the piston rings, the camshaft(pay attention to the timing points at the gears),the oil pump, the gaskets and so on. best regards savumihai71

Fans usually wind up pretty high and slow down once the OS has loaded. The fan itself may be filled with dust and/or have a dry bearing. Well, if you're comfortable with taking apart your laptop,, usually keyboard off first, you might be able to see the fan or at least part of it. This is where an old toothbrush or your wifes soft long bristled old makeup brush will come in handy to gently clean between the blades of the fan. Get it as clean as possible, put your keyboard back on and test it. If it still makes noise, then its probably a dry bearing in which case you'll have lots more to take apart to completely remove the fan. you might be able to get some light sewing machine oil to the bearing and try it again. Otherwise, go to a computer repair shop for a new one but, they rarely ever go bad. Just get REALLY dirty. And don't forget to clean on the inside of the fins too with that toothbrush.
is it a loose fan belt this will make a scretching noise thats the cheapest thing expensive things if its a manuel could be a thrust bearing on the gear box or worse still an imput shaft bearing on gear box but i think it will be just the fan belt screeching
A screeching or squealing noise usually comes from the fan motor. There may be an oil port and you can buy a small telescoping oil bottle at a super hardware store or an a/c supply house. Before putting in he oil, remember to TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE UNIT and only use a light squeeze on the bottle - over oiling will cause a mess inside the motor. It may be a sealed motor and no oil ports. In either case, budget for a new motor as if it's to the squealing stage, the bearings are already damaged and it's a just matter of time before before the motor bearings fail. If possible, get oil on the bearings ASAP - and use the proper lightweight oil for made for this application.
Not sure but I think someone told me it is a knock off of the Honda? If so maybe try comparing? Ck size, Spring tension & etc?
I know not much help but that's where I'd start. Been told by a local small eng shop there aren't internal parts available for the Sumec engines.
