Question about Fellowes Powershred 420CC Confetti-Cut Shredder

Open Question

Motor Overheating Light is on but have not used the machine in several days and light was not on when it was last used. Pressed rocker switch several times and doesn't make a difference. Pulled out the bag and checked for paper jams and unplugged machine none of which turns off the red light.

Red light stays on and can't ooperate the shredder. It will go in reverse. No jams, door is securely shut, just won't operate.

SOURCE: Red Light on, but no jam

Your problem is probally with the safety interlock switch on your machine. On the PS-65c It is located on the right hand side of the unit. There will be a tab of plastic on the inside lip of the basket that goes into a slot on shredder head. If plastic piece is bent or broken machine will not operate. If it does not appear broken make sure when you put shredder head on that it fits flush all the way around on the basket. If none of this helps contact Fellowes Customer Service at 1-800-945-4545 and we will be glad to assist you further.

SOURCE: SHREDDER STOPS (RED LIGHT) VERY FREQUENTLY

there are what is called strippers that ride in between the teeth to keep paper from building up. they are plastic and can break after awhile. sounds like you have some of the stripper combs broken.

SOURCE: paper gets jammed. Even shredding just one sheeet

The problem was solved by putting some oil on the top of the shredder and running the motor forward and in reverse to coat the teeth. Thank you.

I have a Staples Shredder model SPL-TXC6A (serial 0809026807), which I have been using a lot lately. The auto and reverse buttons will not function, & neither will the forward button.

If you have used it a lot, it may have tripped the thermal fuse. Normally, these reset themselves. One thing to make sure of,, is that the safety switch under the machine is firmly on the pin in the basket under it.

This is a light duty shredder, you can only use it for two minutes!

6-sheet, light-duty, up to 25 uses/day
Runs 2 min on / 4 min off

What is the red light next to the green power light? It appears to look like a temperature light. My unit won't run.

In most cases it means the shredder is full or something is jammed. Empty the shredding container. If the machine has a "reverse" position on its switch, try running it backwards to get whatever is jamming the teeth to come back out.

Over heated light stays on

The thermal fuse has blown due to over heating motor. The fuse does not reset.

At first the shredder would only run for 3-4 seconds, then quit. Turning the rocker switch off, then back on, would cause the shredder to run another 3-4 seconds, OR pulling the collection bin out, then...

could be the sensor needs cleaning or is now defective. Use a q-tip and insert it where the paper goes. Look for a small button which senses the paper and triggers the stredder motor.

Royal 85x crosscut shredder stopped working

Some shredders aren't designed to shred anything more than paper. Credit cards, staples, paper clips and the like could have jammed it up. Try running the shredder in reverse and oiling the blades. More help with paper shredder oil here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Paper-Shredder-Oil

If you can't get the paper shredder up and running, it looks like you might have to pick up a new paper shredder. Paper shredders can be pretty cheap though, great guide to cheap paper shredders here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-Paper-Shredders

Andrew,
You have done all the right troubleshooting.

I would say the circuit board is toast.

My shredder will not turn on. Is there a reset switch?

There are a couple of reason why A shredder will not turn on.

There is a safety switch that makes sure the shredder is attached to the base. Make sure this makes contact and nothing is keeping the switch from closing.

There is an overheat cutout switch attached to the motor. This should automatically reset after the motor cools off after overheating.

If not then the last thing to check is the fuse.

Had overheated. Now after several hours the green light and red light go on. No motor sound??

hi,
Turn it off and let it sit idle for about an hour. This should cure an overheating problem
For no power and green light and red light go on, the problem is with power switch- top of unit.

After remove all screws, you need LONG-LONG screwdriver and one short screwdriver with out handler, because few screws almost imposable to remove. you make few holes on bottom of unit to remove 4 screws.
you have two ways to fix switch problem-
1. replace it, if you can find new switch.
2. solder two wire to switch and make a hole on top of unit. when you need to power unit, turn back switch on and touch two wire as switch.

Fellowes PS60C-2 shredder doesn't shred

there are two switches under the cutter area. 1 for sensing when your basket is full, (sometimes these bin-full flaps get stuck in the up position, energizing the switch) and the other is a switch that detects if your basket is installed. fellowes has modified these shredders so many times, that there are alot of different configurations. look for something that resembles a flap under the head and make sure its in the down position. as for the basket sensor, some baskets had 2 projections on the left and right top of basket. one may be broke. if so, you can "cheat" the switch with a screwdriver to see if thats the problem.
