Read this post of a specialist: http://thesymbianblog.com/2008/07/11/rant-nokia-your-firmware-update-apparatus-needs-a-serious-overhaul/ it won't solve everything, but it will confirm that the nokia firmware update is very buggy and... you should complain at Nokia!

have you checked if there are any firmware updates available for your device via Nokia Suite? if there are any, please update to the latest version offered. Failing that, you can try re-installing your current firmware thru Nokia Suite.
You should also save any photos/videos/music to your memory card, or if you don't have one, then invest in one as your device does support microSD memory cards.
to re-install, select check for updates, and it will say there are no updates, and next to the text saying there is no updates, there will be a paragraph within that paragraph in blue text will be "re-install".
Use factory reset (remember to backup your data) which u can find under settings if this does not work then i recommend you to update your phone's firmware version.Steps for updating firmware version is as follows:
To connect your phone to a PC:
Fully charged, compatible Nokia phone Compatible Nokia USB connection cable Compatible USB port on your PC
Step 2/2: Back-up data
Personal data such as contacts, photos and messages stored in the phone memory will be deleted during phone software update. It is strongly recommended that you backup this data to your memory card before updating your phone software.
To backup to your memory card: select Tools > Memory from the main menu select Options > Backup phone mem.
To restore info to phone memory: select Tools > Memory from the main menu select Options > Restore from card
Now use any link below to proceed with the update
If the problem still persists, take your phone to your local Nokia Care Centre for them to have a look
I think you have a memory card installed, if so turn off the mobile, remove the battery, sim card and memory, leave it off for few minutes, scan the memory card with an updated antivirus. After it's done, power on the phone after memory card, sim card, and batter are reinstalled/reinserted.
If that doesn't work, you'll need to format the memory card. Before you proceed with the formatting, remove the memory card and try again. I hope it should work without the memory card. If so back up the files on the memory card on your computer (You'll need a card reader to this) and format it, after it's done, restore the backed up files and try again.
If the problem persists, you'll need to check the firmware of the Mobile, I would recommend you to get it flashed from a mobile repairing Center or Nokia Service Center.
i have nokia 3110 classic mobile. the memory card is nokia. i set

Your firmware seems to have got corrupted. Please update the firmware. But beware, if you do it yourself then only the corrupted files will get re-installed.. While if you get it done thru Nokia Care then the whole firmware will get updated to the latest one.
well, first check your mem. card if it fits the specification e.g. <= 2 gb, good company, etc and having proper music files. if there are music files in phone memory, check their folder and put them in music files. this should work
