Code 39 on DVD Philips SDVD8821

Internal DVD drivers won't load & DVD won't work. On the device manager it indicates that the windows cannot load the drivers for this hardware due to the driver may be corrupt or missing. (Code 39). Can u help with this problem as I've tried Microsoft and they have said it is the manufacturer problem and I can't contact ACER to report the problem, but they have no contact address, email address or phone number to call on their website.

Typically you don't need any special driver to use a DVD drive. Windows loads generic Microsoft drivers for all optical drives.

To solve this Code 39 error, follow these instructions:
NOTE: After removing these registry keys and rebooting, it may be necessary to reinstall any CD or DVD recording applications.
1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE     * SYSTEM     * CurrentControlSet     * Control     * Class     * {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
    * UpperFilters     * LowerFilters     * UpperFilters.bak     * LowerFilters.bak
5) If  any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Hi,

The issue you have posted does require more information to troubleshoot and fix it, information like what type Version of windows you are using and does the drive in the device manager has a YELLOW ! Mark, is the drive is visible in on the device manager page under DVD/CD ROM drives option, however I am suggesting you few steps with the best of my expertise according to the information I could gather reading post which usually fix these kind of issues please follow the instructions below.
1. Click the Start button, click Run.
2. In the RUN box, type Regedit, and then click OK.
3. Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
4. Click the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM.
5. Click the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet.
6. Click the plus sign (+) next to Control.
7. Click the plus sign (+) next to Class.
8. Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
9. On the right side of the window, click UpperFilters. Click Edit on the menu bar.
10. Click Delete, and then click OK.
11. On the right side of the window, click LowerFilters.
12. Click Edit on the menu bar.
13.Click Delete, and then click OK.
14.Click File, and then click Exit.
15. Restart the computer normally.
NOTE: When you click the plus sign (+) next to a folder, it will expand displaying the folders it contains in the left-hand pane of the Registry Editor. When a folder is highlighted, its contents will be displayed in the right-hand pane of the Registry Editor.
In some machines any one of the filters like Lower or Upper filters options will be missing so do not worry if you are not able to find any one of the filters, just delete the one which is found and continue with the other suggested options.
After completing the above mentioned steps restart your computer.
Once the system is back to the desktop screen, please perform the steps mentioned below.
1. Click on start and right click on my computer then left click on properties.
2. Click on hardware on the top right hand corner and then click on device manager.
3. Click on the + sign next to DVD/CD ROM drives option.
4. Right click on the DVD drive option and left click on uninstall.
6. Click on the ‘Action’ and click on ‘ Scan for hardware changes ’ option
5. Close all the windows on the screen.
NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording application or the DVD player Application if you have on your system if they start to not work completely, after doing this.

Regards

Malik Khan

alright. bubul78, your post is in no way shape or form a solution for the problems given by other users. I too have a acer laptop with the philips dvd drive in it, device manager detects the dvd reader and says it is running with no problems. i can hear the drive read the cd when inserted, tho when trying to access the drive through my computer the window hangs at the hourglass for a min or so, then says please insert a cd. only solution is that something is physically wrong with the drive. ok so solution found, replace the cd drive. but where is acers sight to order replacement parts? poor site navigation in my opinion.

Solution to this problem would be to either one track down the drivers on ACER website it should be there!
Or finde the part you are trying to get the drivers for online:
You do not have to go to Microsoft website for drivers
Google the device and drivers or go onto Philips website under support!
